I just did a page on List of Left-Wing Parties in the United Kingdom on Anarchopedia (http://eng.anarchopedia.org/List_of_Left-Wing_Parties_in_the_United_Kingdom). You might like to look it up. I've seen pages like this before but never on a wiki (under a GFDL license) where users can edit it to update or correct it.

You've got the newspapers of the RCG and the RCPB(ML) mixed up, other than that it's a pretty comprehensive list.

That's really cool of you to group the Communist Left with the Stalinists and the Maoists;)

Good idea, but I wouldn't put Maoist in the same catergory as leninist/stalinist. Trotskyism has more in common with Stalinism that Maoism does. I'd seperate the Maoists but I don't know which ones they are. Are there any?
Also I never thought of the green party as left-wing

Anyone know where I can find more information about the organisation called Socialist Fight? Apparently they were involved in the Convention of the Left.

There is an extensive list in the Practice and Propaganda forum on this website.

And here is part of the secret of the left's impotence -- sectarian division. World-wide lists can be found here:

I'd title it "Left Organisations" but for the fact I didn't want it broadened to include single-issue organisations, unions etc. "Parties" for most people, connotes organisations with a full political platform for society (at least nationally) even if Anarchist organisations would shun the term "party".

There's about 20 versus about 30 in the list I refer to - which can also be easily edited without relying on one person to manage and update the list.

Those lists (which rely on one person to manage and update them) are out of date by about 4 years, copyrighted and can't be edited either.

Also I don't know where to place David Broder's successor to the Red Party called The Commune (http://thecommune.wordpress.com/).

CPGB(PCC) are with ICFI? I highly doubt that.

Also, socialist party of england and wales should be listed under trotskyists, as should socialst appeal and socialist equality party.
Also the CWI affiliate of scotland are called International Socialists.

Yes, I was aware of that, but it is still a useful resource.

Apologies if I sounded dismissive, it is a very useful resource (with some limitations I mentioned) and therefore I have included it in the external links section since I started my list.

There is a new one now called Liberty & Solidarity (http://www.libertyandsolidarity.org) which seems similar to SolFed.

Just added Socialist Studies (http://www.socialiststudies.org.uk/) (1989 split from SPGB) - anyone else think there are too many left-wing parties?

There is a page on Wikipedia entitled British left (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_left) but I'm not sure if the structure is good enough, maybe a few tables of election results over time would be worth adding?

I hope you don't mind, but I've copied some of your articles on to the RevLeft wiki :)

I'd have preferred it under GFDL or CC-SA instead of CC-BY-NC.

For anyone interested in Socialist Fight, on spotting their journal today, I have been able to find their e-mail address
[email protected] and their address P.O. Box 59188, London NW2 9LJ. They seem to be part of the International Trotskyist Current (http://international-trotskyism.blogspot.com).

Yay, yet another international. Quick, somebody add it to the wiki list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Trotskyist_internationals)!
Seriously, I get the strong impression this is quite literally a one man show (by "Gerry Downing", mentioned on the blog, whoever that is).

Why the attitude? Why is the CWI not worthy of the same contempt you give other Trot sects? The irony is for all the 'anti-sectarianism' (what really only amounts to winging and whining about it) you people have a terrible attitude to these things.

Well actually the Platform is signed by 5 names.

Is there anywhere you see me making a claim that the CWI is the revolutionary party of the masses? No? Right.
Well actually the Platform is signed by 5 names.I got a different impression from the weblog, where the "about me" column is telling.
Edit:
I'm going to trash these posts as it isn't going anywhere.
Edit2:
Put them back on review.

What is the point of all these aimless sects?
It is delusional to think that the vast majority are anything more than self-indulgent groupings of washed up old Socialists. Sorry if that upsets some of you, but I make no apologies for offending people, because it is this sort of sectarianism that holds the left back.
How many bloody Trotskyist Internationals do we need to make, before we realise that they are all failing on their own?

Thanks for this Idler, but I bet that number will double with splits and the like in the next year, mabye that is to long, 20 minutes:laugh:

A nice start, but it does seem the Trotskyist list is a bit on the short side. The CPGB regularly talks of the "57 varieties of Trotskyism" and I don't think it's a mere cynical remark but they might have actually counted them over the years
Maybe an idea to come in contact with them so they can help you out?
