I'm from West Yorkshire in England.
I don't faithfully subscribe to any sect of anarchism, partly because I don't know enough yet - It's easy enough to go on Wikipedia, read five lines and then say you are a long time subscriber of anarchism syndicalism, but that's stupid - so this is a learning experience for me; and partly because I think all these sects promote disunity, harming the progression of the entire anarchist movement.
Instead of flailing our ideas about like a bat with a nail in it, people should be more constructive and develop their ideas for the sake of both unity and freedom.
I'm a Catholic with a doubtless faith in a supreme being and have never understood anarchist arguments against faith and deities, they are, on the whole, transparent and don't really take into account the spiritual realm. A lot of these anti-god arguments seem to speak of God as a person in this world, like a ruler, but this is not the case. I'm also a pluralist, anyone with good in them can get to the next life, and all religions are the same in essence.

Welcome to the board comrade.
We've made a list of anarchist theory texts in the Anarchist Group (click the link in my signature) to answer most of your questions.

Anyway stick around :)

ayup luv, where abouts in yorkshire are you from? I'm up in Leeds at the moment but don't be fooled, I'm actually a brummie at heart.
I'm not an anarchist myself, more of a marxist. It's fairly rare to find a religious revolutionary although I strongly recommend the works of James Connolly, a Catholic and marxist who died for a free socialist Ireland. He wrote quite a bit about religion and in particular polemics in reply to a priest who denounced communism as anti-catholic.

I, myself, am no an anarchist, but modern Communist and an atheist, but to all his own, correct? I think it is good to have faith in something. The people have taken all my faith in order for me to believe in them. Hahaha!
I don't necessarily believe in an ultimate "being" as an ego, but, through science I am willing to believe in anything that is proven. Even an intelligent creator, though I doubt it will be of anything we've deemed our "god" so far. I find it probable that life did not begin on Earth, so something like a "god" focusing on us is pretty arrogant, if you know what I mean.
But enough for now. I think it would be wonderful if we could discuss these things further in a civil manner. Seeing as we have such differing views it would be interest. What do you think?

Hi there, Spoons. Hopefully you are aware of the christian anarchist tradition, as well as the Catholic Worker. While christianity within anarchism is fairly controversial, I think you'll find a place for yourself within the anarchist milieu.

Yes, factionalism can be bad, but I don't fault anyone for finding a theory that they can identify most with. I see the revolutionary society as associations of people based on affinity: those of like world-views will gather together. I hope to see "communes" (for lack of a better term) of anarchist-communists, syndicalists, individualists, etc., all able to put into practice how they feel society would be best organized. To me, it's about plurality and respect for a diversity of tactics.

Anyway, welcome!
