Hello and good day to all who read this. I'm new to this forum, foruming, and have only recently admitted to myself that I am indeed not a Liberal, but a Communist, and a radical anti-fascist at that. I have come to realize that capitalism is a system built on greed which only benefits a small number of people, no matter how the Right would prefer to spin things, and needs to be cast aside for true human progress to be achieved. I am a University student studying Sociology (to better know the workings of society is to know how to change it), student of modern history (to an extent), and a marxist, who has admittedly not read enough of Trotsky or Lenin's personal works to identify with either one specifically. Any advice on literature to read to this end, particular threads that may help me, or any other advice to one who hasn't been a forumer or leftist for that long, your input would be appreciated!

You don't have to identify with either

Thank you for the links, radicalgraffitti, and for the suggestion, Killfacer. Will take both under advisement. :thumbup1:

Welcome aboard comrade! I'm fairly new here myself. I hope your stay is a nice one.

By the way, Trotskyism and Leninism are not the only variants of Communism.

Not to push my beliefs on you at all comrade, but you should check out some more anti-authoritarian approaches to communist like ideals.

I intend to, comrade, being that it was an anarchist friend of mine who pointed this site out to me. I've read some Chomsky, and I must say, I'm intrigued.

Welcome. :)
Also, other important socialist tendencies include:
Council communism, for which you can read Pannekoek. (probably on marxists.org)
Marxism-De Leonism, for which you can read Daniel De Leon's (post-1904) works free on the SLP website. It's certainly the program closest to the late Marx's beliefs, though that in itself doesn't make it good.
Mutualism. (I'm not sure of who to recommend on mutualism)
Post-left tendencies (probably something put out by CrimethInc)

Well, quite the homework assignment! Thanks ;)

I wouldn't suggest post-left and especially not mutualism....
But I would definately suggest Pannekoek/Left-Communism/Council Communism if you want a Marxism that is different from Lenin's and Trotsky's

Well, it'd be nice to gain a sense of what's out there... when it comes to literature, I've only read Marx and Engles' Communist Manifesto, so I have alot of reading to do before I figure out exactly where I stand.

And thanks for the input ;)

Greetings! I know this is a bit after the fact, but if you're interested in reading recommendations, I would recommend "The Conquest of Bread" and "The Wage System" by Peter Kropotkin. Kropotkin was not a Marxist, but he was an anarchist-communist. "The Conquest of Bread" is a book-length work, but the writing style is really easy to read and is a great introduction and overview to anarchist-communism. The chapters are short, as well, and the whole thing won't take long to read at all.

If you decide to read up on it, feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss it. There are a few others reading it now, as well.

Welcome to the boards!
