Prisoners Solidarity Christmas Trees

DERRY

The Irish Republican Forum For Unity wish to announce that we will be erecting a prisoners solidarity Christmas tree at the junction of William Street and Rossville Street on Thursday 11th December at 8pm.

December is traditionally a referred to as Prisoners Month and this year is particularly poignant given that there currently exists upwards of one hundred republican pows incarcerated in various prisons in Ireland and abroad. A number of these prisoners are from the Derry and Strabane areas. There has been an upsurge in the campaign by the authorities north and south of the border to imprison republicans by any means at their disposal and a large proportion of those currently sentenced or awaiting trial have been charged with membership of what they term an "illegal" organisation with little or no evidence other than the word of senior Garda or PSNI personel.

The Forum for Unity is comprised of the IRSP, 32CSM, Republican Network for Unity and various independent republicans and this is a joint project between all of those. The Christmas tree will display the names of all the republican POWs, regardless of political affiliation, and will be formally unveiled by some relatives of current prisoners. We would call on all republicans, regardless of political affiliation to turn up and support this project and to send solitarity to the prisoners and their families and to send a message that the prisoners will be in our thoughts this Christmas.
