Sexual Impulses-what are they and when do they occur?

By occur, I mean, when do people start experiencing these urges for the first time? Many people say it's during adolescence, but I don't believe it, even as a child, I (and many others) have experienced it. So what's this particular impulse that we call sexual? Is it just neurological, if so, why only certain objects produce this urge?:(

I hope people familiar with neurology can provide an insight into this, especially when and why it occurs, and how.

Not only the nervous system (electrical signaling) is involved, since hormones are the endocrine system (chemical signaling). But the mental aspect of sexual arousal is very interesting, because a person can change the blood flow to various organs by choosing to visualize a scene, which blurs the distinction between involuntary and voluntary responses. Many of us can also increase our salivation by visualizing ourselves biting a lemon, which is a common textbook example of lightly induced hypnosis, and another case of an involuntary reflex becoming voluntary by an indirect means.

I am not so sure about this. We feel hunger, which is also a physiological impulse, and it doesn't depend on our conditioning. We feel it, no matter. So I thought we felt sexual impulses, regardless of the social environment.

Well pehaps i'm just odd, there are scenario's I'd prefer not to delve into, just trying to say that environmental factors have an impact on sexuality.

It's not strange for a three year old to masturbate, however the child would have no concept of sexuality.

So I think when we speak of sexual impulse we are not simply reffering to a physiological impulse, there's a strong psychological and highly subjective aspect to it.

I remember telling one of my friends that sometimes when I touched my organ for some time it felt really good untill orgasm. Not that I had ever heard what an orgasm was at the time, so I had to try to explain it on how it felt.

I don't really think it is that uncommon to have orgasms, before you hit puberty. Half of the boys in my class gathered quite often to watch porn and masturbate together at the age of 11-12.
