There's a cool website that breaks down the basic effects of Heroin, Ecstasy, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Alcohol, Coke, and Acid on the brain. It's a fun and interactive website involving mice , called Mouse Party (http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/addiction/drugs/mouse.html).

The same website also breaks down how drugs alter the brain's reward pathway (http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/addiction/drugs/index.html).

Enjoy, explore, have fun!

I think that the abuse of drugs will diminish greatly after Socialism.

edit:that was fun/ somewhat intersting. Mostly fun though.

People abuse more then just 'illegal' drugs, for instance: alcohol, tobacco, the internet, tv, video games, other people, etc. Why do you think that abuse of drugs "will diminish greatly after Socialism?"

for the people who are intrested in (the effects of) drugs but dont follow chitchat, an intrested thread is evolving there about drugs: http://www.revleft.com/vb/lsd-effect-t96019/index.html

Because drugs are an escape or otherwise distortion of your own mental existence. You simply don't need to escape a productive, associative social system as much as you do a destructive, alienating one.

If things are there, people will abuse them.
Drugs are no exception, sadly. They're not a good thing to do, either. Even very mild drugs kill sensory receptors in the brain, which is why people lose their thighs. It's really sad that even if people get off them, they go through untreatable depression for a period :(

But I'm not trying to be preachy, so let's see what we got here *goes to click the link*

EDIT: I feel smart, I just learned about all of this recently in school. We're studying the brain, and we jsut covered all this stuff in detail, it's nice I get to apply it somewhere!

my Speech teacher in middle school told me that Marijuana raises estergen levels in Men & Testosterone in Women. But, then again, she also thought Iraq & Saudi Arabia were Communist...

I've smoked pot in the past, It's really of no harm. I'm still strongly against Heroin, Cocaine, etc., though, & Alcohol isn't exactly good for you :P

on the brain, most drugs cause harm. Marijuana really only harms your sinuses & lungs, it just screws with your Short-Term Memory in the Brain (temporarily). Still, mainly because of what itdoes to your Sinuses, I haven't smoked in the past few months lol (Pot, not Cigarettes. Cigarettes are expenive & make you smell bad, not to mention that you will eventually start talking through a hole in your throat.)

Define "abuse".

You should try some better drugs if you don't think they're a good thing to do.

Even very mild drugs kill sensory receptors in the brain,

Yes, that's part of the fun. To have an altered state of perception, a loss of control and a shift in your approach to things.

which is why people lose their thighs.

On monday I smoked an ungodly amount of hash, I lost a lot of things but I've still got my thighs.

It's really sad that even if people get off them, they go through untreatable depression for a period :(

What? If they get off what? I've gone for months, maybe years without some drugs (which I believe counts as "off") and didn't find myself suffering depression because of it. Marijuana and ecstasy, for example, have incredibly low instances of dependence such that people suffer what you're describing.

But I'm not trying to be preachy

You get an E grade for effort.

Is there a way to recreate the effects of LSD, without resorting to it?

Peyote, which is a plant if you're into the natural stuff (its where they get mescaline from) or Morning Glories who's seeds contain LSA.

People were using psychedelic drugs WAY before capitalism existed (peyote has been used in Mexico for thousands of years). And they weren't used to "escape", they were used to gain understanding. People have also been using marijuana for thousands of years for medicinal purposes. Drug use has become distorted since people started making other people's lives suck, I don't deny that. But drugs have been used for a long time before things went to shit, so I think that would still be used when things get better.

As DesertShark mentioned morning glory seeds, which contain LSA, are cheap and legal alternatives. They're quite fun, too.
