Is globalisation weakening, transforming or not effecting the state?
I am leaning towards not really effecting but this is before I have read anything on the subject, and because the state when called on has always acted in the interests of its own capitalists...
anybody got any input or good marxist sources?

Sorry what do you mean by state here?
globalisation is just free trade with out protectism and allowing offshoring and outsourcing like to China and India for exploitation.
There is a global recession but that just because every thing is traded in US dollar.

The state must always be there, in one way or another. A corporation needs a legal ground to stand on, something that says that a person or a group can create a company and exploit other people. However, that state need not be a country as it might be defined today.
The European Union, for example, merely transfer state power to "union power", making each country more or less like a US state - formal, with no real power.

Actually, "free trade" as currently practiced in agreements such as NAFTA is highly protectionist - for the rich, powerful countries, that is. Poor, developing countries, however, are fully exposed to the global market, coerced into dropping protectionist barriers. But of course, we do not follow that standard. We merely set it upon others.

But NAFTA is just Canada ,US and Mexico. In reality NAFTA helps the US not Canada or Mexico. There is topic on NAFTA in OI section of the group.
