I was curious as to what it is that makes you pinko’s believe that practically no one apart from yourselves is capable of seeing through the "lies" you constantly and groundlessly accuse the western media of manufacturing? Is it the fact that you can type "commondreams.com" in the URL bar? Or is because most of you are under twenty and therefore are vastly superior in intellect to people who have had a great deal of world experience and attained university degrees?

You all harbour an arrogant underestimation of the sophistication and critical judgement of people who watch the news and read newspapers. There is no reason to believe that you are any more capable than the next person to analyse media interpretations of world events.

In reality, the majority of this community’s members would have adopted socialism about a month after finding out what it actually was simply because it provided a means by which you could avoid facing reality, something your emotional problems and failure to be accepted in society make necessary for you to do. It is this, and not your arrogantly self-styled intellectualism, that is the foundation of your adherence to socialism.

The same could be said about people with different idealogies. Most people that really study sets of beliefs and then select which one they wish to support will choose what in their mind is the best for humanity or in some cases for their interests.

I am sure or atleast I hope most of this world supports what they believe in because they wish for good of humanity be it capitalist, socialist, whatever.

Everybody gives their own perception of events. If the best refutation of leftist perceptions you can give is to say 'hey you must be wrong, lots of people disagree' then I suggest you go and ally yourself with the flat earth society because at one time the same could have been said for their view.

Of course its hardly a tiny minority of people who do see the western media and governments as misleading people. Only in the west itself where the propaganda operates at full strength is this true.

Even within the west there are many more people who see the media and government as unreliable than there are lefties. Many people see it as unreliable without having a particular view of what the truth is (and this includs many right wingers).

The best example ofLiberty in the usa, was the anti- war movement of the 60's, where people actually made a stance against being drafted to go fight a war, against another country that wanted to shut its doors to usa's companys and chose to feed ALL there people instead....

Ok, so there are right-wingers who read/watch the news and don't nexcessarily believe all of it, and there are left-wingers who do the same, but most people either don't read the news or don't understand it or don't analyse it in the same way, if at all. People like to hide from reality, we can all agree on that, but I disagree that leftists hide from reality. We know life in a capitalist society is far from easy for most people, nearly all, so we want to do something about itm by changing the system. Why is that hiding from reality? We can change reality, we don't have to be stuck in this kind of society, where does it say that we do?

I think that's it, LL. Studies have shown that people over 20 with university degrees turn into drooling morons within weeks of graduation...their willingness to accept the mainstream media's version of "events" skyrockets!

A careful study by the American Heritage Institute has shown that lefties over 20 are exclusively university drop-outs.

The study concludes "We strongly recommend the strictest methods to make those damn kids stay in school until they graduate or else not let them in at all; partial brain-washing is counterproductive and leads to Marxism and even anarchism."

It might be a case of groupthink, but the resulting media-frenzy caused by the recent war has put the media under the knife yet again. How can you not expect people to be judgemental? How can people be blind to the inaccuracies, the slanted reports and the blanket of lousy coverage that we get?

I think the point of an ideology is that you believ it is right and therefore are justified in being smug. You dont follow something you dont believe is right and therefore will naturally treat people who follow other ideologies differently.

I don't believe its because someone believes its absolutly correct and I think it's wrong for someone once they have decided that the idea they support is correct or the best way to go about something, is to block everyone else out and believe that everyone else wrong. I think that most leftists from liberals to the extream, have something to learn from each other, but there are conservatives that will not listen to what anyone else has to say unless they are a right-wing gun nut or what have you. I'm not even sure there is anything of value to learn from most ultraright conservatives, because the present to no one anything that holds anything even resembing the truth. You can see it in all of America's cooperate media and so on. The Media in the United States is nothing but a propaganda machine for the conservatives, you can see that is most evident in what happened in the now past war in Iraq. First it began as threats by the worlds largest power to a small rogue state that had "WMD", then as the war started, it became a war of liberation with hardly any mention of the fabled weapons. And now, are there weapons, No, of course not. Now, Mr. Bush and his propaganda machine should be heald accountable, but wont. Tony Blair is being slamed in the UK, and rightly so. All Bush can do is go up on stage and say "Bring 'em on" and all kinds of harrasing things that will only lead to more violence against the US.
