I came across this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKs-u0q467U) which shows people claiming to be Scientologist. It was posted by Scientology's official channel on YouTube.
Scientology claims to be the fastest growing religion. If that's true, we may see Scientology develop from a small joked about cult to a major religion.
Could you respect a "socialist Scientologist"? The possibility does seem out there, but I think it's possible that a few exist.

Remember, the Romans thought the Christians were lunatics too.
Then they took over. I just think we're just going to have to deal with Scientology like all religions. The structure of that religion will have to change under socialism because it's a greedy corrupt piece of shit. The Xenu stuff is silly, but if they want to believe it, that's their choice.

yeah but christian beliefs, hell even the mormon beliefs (inc. their magic underpants) are sane compared to the scientology gospel;

and wich religion ever lockes up their own prophet in an mental institution, like scientology did with hubard? scientology is not an religion its an sham disguised as one...

No. The church of Scientology wishes to surplant leaders with their own. They have a long history of infiltrating governments and spying which even a cursory glance at the evidence on the internet will verify. I don't blame them for trying, the established religions have more or less succeeded across the board, but they're too late in the game to be anything more than a shitty little cult, despite their ludicrous claims of bazillions of members. The world is moving on past religion. Scientology doctrine permits them to lie their asses off to the rest of the world, so I suggest that you believe the exact opposite of whatever claims you heard from this shithead.

Time will tell. Christianity (presumably) seems silly to the Jews, who revere their burning bushes and parted seas because their forebears believed it for so many generations. Now Christianity, with its resurrected Christ who walks on water and makes many loaves and fishes out of just one (by magic), seems obviously true to Christians who were born into it.
Mormonism's precepts aren't even seriously reviewed by current Mormons born into the church ("that's what we've always believed, so it mut be true." So if scientology survives, which I doubt, it will seem all too normal in a thousand years.
Come, my friends, to the one true church: Epicureanism.

I could respect them just as much as I could any other religious person who considers themselves socialist.
It always amazes me how people (especially religious people) have the gaul to make this huge deal out of mocking Scientology as if it's any less ridiculous than any other fairy tale belief floating around out there.

Hey, Tom, no denigration of Christianity intended there, btw. It's still a great religion.
I'm sure you remember Epicureanism from your studies of classics, but I was surprised to learn it favors tranquility of mind, and the orgies and feasts I used to associate with the word are at cross purposes with its goals.
From Wiki land:
In the Epicurean view, the highest pleasure (tranquility and freedom from fear) was obtained by knowledge, friendship, and living a virtuous and temperate life. He lauded the enjoyment of simple pleasures, by which he meant abstaining from bodily desires, such as sex and appetites, verging on asceticism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asceticism). He argued that when eating, one should not eat too richly, for it could lead to dissatisfaction later, such as the grim realization that one could not afford such delicacies in the future. Likewise, sex could lead to increased lust and dissatisfaction with the sexual partner.

Man I love that F.S. Monster (hilarious), but those eyeballs give me the creeps. I hope I don't get nauseous thinking about it next time I'm eating Italian. If I do, I'll be sure to report the details of it here.

The point isn't the myths (silly though they are) because every religion has them. The problem is scietnology's methods - they prey on the weak (narcanon, for example, looks to take vulnerable drug addicts and convert them to scientology), it take vast amounts of money (which could, concievably, rip apart a working class home) and engage in murderous clandestine actions. They are a genuinely terrifying cult.

You can't really claim that other religions don't do this either, here every rehab is christian as I would guess they are in most of the christian dominated world. Most of them works like small cults and are state-sponsored (they get an obscene amount of money for each patient).
Last year some secular guys/gals tried to open up a secular rehab senter but got denied. (take the point with a grain of salt since I couldn't find the article covering it)

Not that I don't agree with you on this, but I don't see how that makes Scientology differ from religions in general.
Other religions do the exact same thing and are even more terrifying because they're larger and have way more influence.

I'm not saying you can't protest Scientology. I'm just saying protests won't keep it from becoming popular. Reading all about Scientology's schemes here in Florida I wonder if Florida will become to the Scientologists like Utah was to the Mormons after they invaded. Clearwater, Florida is their headquarters and they hold a considerable amount of dominance over that city. They're even here in Jacksonville apparently.
I gotta warn everybody :D
