Man sentenced to life in prison - For spitting on a cop.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) -- An Oklahoma man arrested on suspicion of beating his wife faced year in prison and a fine. But when he spit in an arresting officer's face, he got a life sentence instead, officials said Wednesday.

John Carl Marquez, 36, was convicted of "placing bodily fluid upon a government employee," a felony that can carry a life sentence because of the possibility of transmitting a potentially deadly disease.

State judge April Sellers White sentenced Marquez this week even though Marquez and the officer tested negative for any communicable disease.

Marquez also was convicted of assaulting a police officer, and a jury recommended the maximum sentence because he had previous convictions.

Marquez, arrested several months ago, could have received one year in prison and a $3,000 fine for wife beating, according to the Creek County court clerk's office.

This is just BS. It really got me pissed.

That is SO fucked up... A Yank friend of mine who's on parole and had some drugs at his house was facing 20 years earlier today but a nice cop let him off so his life wouldn't be over, but in general America is a fucked up place!

A Reich is generally considered to be territory or government of a German state.

The Holy Roman Empire was the first Reich, from the ninth century to 1806; Bismarck’s German Empire was the Second Reich, from 1871 to 1919; and Nazi Germany was the Third Reich, from 1933 to 1945.

It's quite simplistic of you to be referring to a state other than Germany as a "Reich".

I’m in two minds regarding whether an attempt to liken Nazi Germany with the United States is deserved of a response. On the one hand, if we react to such stupidity we run the risk of giving it some kind of legitimacy. However, if it is allowed to go unchallenged the, shall we say, “less wise” among us could start spewing it up everywhere they go and suddenly we’ll have a significant number of people believing that somehow the Jews that were sent to Nazi extermination and concentration camps would have experienced similar conditions if they were living in the USA today.

Ive read the article on another forum and in that article it states that the accused also bit the cop when the cop tried to prevent him from spitting again. that's felony assault. The third felony for this particular individual and the sentnce was decide dby a jury of his peers. Next time post the entire story and not the stuff that supports your beliefs.

His other convictions were also burglary and rape (A life sentance anyway)
