hi. i have a 2 year formation in computer maintenance, i got my 2 year degree after my normal school, i am Qualified to repair and fix computer, do tech support etc.

i tried to work for the governement, but the syndicates determined that to do an IT job, you need to have a CEGEP degree. I dont have such things, so i cant be hired. In the private sector, to do the SAME task, they usually hire people with my kind of formation, and without any problems.

I recently learned that it was the unions that where voluntarly maxing up the exigences required in order to protect the older member.

now, i dont have any problems with the older member BUT, its really frustrating to do not get a job beccause the union decided to max up the job requirements.

I'm not exactly familure with the specific things you mentioned but any field where you work with computers or related things there is going to be a fairly high turn over rate every so many years due to the advance of technology.

some unions in the US have become worse then the businesses they work for. the best plan is to try to jion and change the union form with in, or start a new union.

Unions are the ONLY organizations that are made up of workers and organize democratically and fight for the workers, some of them have been coopted by businesses, but they are still the only of their kind, join the IWW, thats a real class struggle organization.

Sounds pretty fucking annoying. It's the same the world over, people who are clearly well enough qualified to do a job being rejected because they lack a particuarly qualification. There are hundreds of diffferent qualifications here in England. When i was job hunting, some date information clerk jobs needed some really obscure qualifications; whats the point in getting them? Just frustrating as i can clearly do data entry. I imagine its even more frustrating when you are actually well qualified in a field (as you are in ICT) and you still get rejected for not having so useless qualification.
