when i was an kid the book and the movie "the wave" (suposedly based on actual events) made an huge impression on me and was certainly one of the contributing factors in me later getting involved with anti-fascism.

The old version of the movie is fucking horrible, and I had to read the book for English a week or so ago.

It was also pretty boring.

Hopefully the new version will be better.

The film is absolutely excellent - everybody should see it!! I haven't read the book but the film is an updated modernised version based in Germany, so I imagine they're quite different.

It is beautifully shot; has some quite funny moments and highlights how susceptible people are to movements that offer them a sense of belonging as well as unique priveleges and social status. I think this condition is what attracts some people to certain nonsensical leftist organisations with outlandish concepts at their core. MIM, for instance. But that's a topic for another day and another place - if anyone knows of an existing thread on that here then lemme know. :)
