View Full Version : America's Fascist Founders - Puritan Pride!

THe great country of America was first settled by a group of religious refugees called Puritans. Of course, everyone knows that. The Puritans were and English version of the Calvinists, a radical religion based upon Augustine's Pre-destination dogma. John Calvin, founder of Calvinism, built a city that ran on the stuff. It could have been described as a religious police state. Fascism in its prime. He even had a secret religious police called the consisitory. They could barge into any house, denoucing a man playing cards as a heretic and burn him, in the name of the lord. I find it frightening that a spawn of this sick faith could have roots here in the good ol' U$A!
Your Thoughts?
Well, this style of religious fanaticism isn't prevalent in american society today...however with the new anti-terrorist(anti-privacy) legislation, it could become reminiscent of puritanical 'barge and burn' style practices.

Hesh, everyone's favorite braindead Liberal. Can't stop laughting at his post, looks like he gets his knowledge of America from 'Fat Micheal Moore's Guide To American History for Liberal Europeans'. Puritians were the first European seattlers in North America, there were also many other seattlers from other parts of Europe who weren't Purtian who settled in North America.
By 1700's around the time of the American Revolutionary war about 38% of the Purtian settlers moved upper North (Canada). The founding fathers of the U.S weren't Purtians, most were Freemasons, some where Christians.
BTW
Remember to write about things you actaully know about next time, Hesh.

Not true. They simply have stopped burning people and instead knock on your door at 6am waking you from a good sex-dream only to tell you how "accepting jesus now will guarantee you spot in heaven."
I'd rather be burned.
Comrade Hampton,
If you ever get into Phoenix, AZ let me know. You would be surprised how many brits are here, unfortunately (I had hoped that when I left England I had left bad teeth and pasty skin behind) I'd like to have a pint with you. You're a cool kat.

they went to the US looking for "freedom of religion" and when they got there hung all the quakers and built a religious police state executing people for believing in free will.
However elsewhere, despite what the religious fanatics may tell you, most of the founding fathers were secular and respected freedom of religion for all. Tom Paine makes this clear.

Moskitto, where's your info from? Just so I know, there seem to be a few conflicting ideas in this thread.

Tom Paine who was in the American war of Independance and the French Revolution wrote several books including "The Age of Reason" and "The Rights of Man," In these he makes it very clear that the Americans at the time were actually the most progressive religious people at the time, not the god fearing fundamentalists that the religious right would tell you today. However the puritans in the 17th century were psychopathic fundamentalist nutballs.

I tend to disagree with the sentiment put forth here. The writters of the Constitution, I believe were mostly Deist and Agnostics, who were hoping to create a nation where they would be tolerated.

Religious fanaticism is Universal. Sad but true.
Bush is a fanatic...and a dumb one at that. His policies are based on out of date "cowboy" politics...
Sorry, the US is now a bigger target than ever.

Perception of the yanquee colonists will vary depending on what country you are from. As far as any of them being agnostic, I cannot believe that is a accurate assumption at all. The original colonists themselves were definitely puritanical fanaticals. The writers of the yanquee consitution were a generation removed from these original colonists. The closest thing you can find to the original puritans would be the Amish in New England and they are really not political force.

Okay, then just ignore the fact about the founding fathers being unreligious, and call them fanatics as well.
