Go to about 2:28, I think this is the best explination of modernday white working class racism, and why we should look BEHIND what drives racism, rather than just attacking conservative working class whites.

Racism IS NOT innate in the system, most real racists ARE NOT the Capitalists, most of the Capitalists use racism to divide the working class, and we should'nt be helping them out.

I am unable to watch the video just now, but I agree that it is imperative that we look at the reasons behind racism (and sexism, homophobia, transphobia and so forth) rather than just refuse to address the issue as some here would prefer. Problems don't go away thanks to name calling.

Anyway I shall watch the video later when I am able to do so.

considering past discussions about race, I think its this is very important, a lot of lefitsts (and others) I think have some preconseptions about where racism comes from that are wrong, especially the idea that racism is innate in the system.

I was doing some survey work in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia for a college course and the racism there is very apparent. The working class residents I spoke to and interviewed for my study were not shy about it at all, and I don't even necessarily look white to most people. Despite this they were not shy about making prejudiced and racist comments towards blacks, Mexicans, and Eastern Europeans around me. For some reason they went on a tangent about Albanians. Many of the newer residents who are gentrifiers, hipseter, and yuppies often cited the racism of the natives as one of the things they least like about the neighborhood.
