Tito - Good or Bad?

Was Tito good for Yugoslavia? Yes thousands of people died under his reign, but he did get the country built up. He didn't fleece the country like many leaders in his position. It was only after his death that the country tore itself apart. And on top of all that he kept Yugoslovia out of the Warsaw Pact, which was a good thing.

unfortunately i dont know of Tito but it really depends on what he did after he built the country so if he carried on killing after hes probably bad

Tito was a "good dictator" if such a thing exists, he built a powerful economy, and ended ethnic fighting in the balkans, and it resumed only after his death.

My cousin is married to a guy from serbia montenegro (former yugoslavia) and he said life was fantastic under Tito, i dont know much about tito im just sayin what a yugoslav said

Tito seemed to be alright in comparison to most other Eastern European rulers. Stalin hated him, so he must have been doing something right. I read somewhere that he allowed a certain degree of workers control, so his system was probably more democratic than, say, Poland or Romania, countries with similar reasources in the same general area. Also, remember that his system was brought to power because of a popular uprising, not on Stalin's bayonets.

I have family in the former Yugoslavia, and the popular sentiment (at least in Slovenia) is that Tito was a good guy.
Alot of people really wish that the Federative People's Republic still existed.
