Stephen 'Steve' Fain Earle is an American singer-songwriter, well known for his rock and country music, as well as his political views. He is also a published writer, a political activist and has written and directed a play. In his early career, he was seen as a saviour of country music and hailed by some as the "new Bruce Springsteen." In the later part of his career, after troubles with the law, drug addiction and his uncompromising viewpoints, he has become known as "the hardcore troubadour".

Just saw him live (sorta). Him and Tom Morello were doin a show near me but to be honest, i had never even heard of Steve Earle when I bought the tickets, I only went for morello. After Morello was don playin I stayed for for some of Steve Earle. Love his message, just notta big fan of the type of music.

It is really strange that Steve Earle started out in country music which, on the whole, tends to support conservative, religious values.. It looks like he came to his senses and got the hell out of Nashville!! The Steve Earle of late is a left-leaning troubadour..Gotta love that!!
