I don't know where to post this at but do you believe (or is it factual) that the U.S. is heading towards the same path how the Soviet Union collapsed due to it's over amount of military spending which is obviously causing the finical crisis we are going through today?

i say that military spending in the us is not really helping beccause its avoid the governement to invest it to another val uable places like social services and such.
BUT i dont think it mean the end of the us military adventure, it just mean the troops will have differents equipements, and costly project will get dropped in favor of most cost-wise ones.

Hmm...I Guess your saying that the military would use cheap equipment thus would be less powerful they were before? Not to mention their access to weaponry and equipment is going to be much more difficult since the US outsourced them all to different countries which I don't think that those countries are going give up the weaponry/equipment that easy....Gets to show that U.S. Capitalists aren't that perfect due to lack of common sense and lack of oversight they have which is one of their weaknesses I presume.

cheaper aint mean poor quality.
sames buisness making low cost projects for the military.
maybe keep the humvee but redesign some features instead of going all the way with the striker.
making addtionnnal upgrades for the f15 rather than going alll the way with the raptor.
keeping the m16 instead of moving toward the g36.
anyway, defense contractor will eventually ajust their price and sell differents products.

The Soviet military came under enormous quantitative pressure. On the other hand, the U$ military is currently under enormous qualitative pressure. The US Navy's carrier fleet is permanently down to 11, the Defense Department cancelled the [otherwise sound] Comanche helicopter project, and Lord knows how behind schedule other Air Force contracts are (F-22s and F-35s, in particular).

The current economic crisis is due to a crisis in capitalism and has been exacerbated by the bursting of the credit and housing bubbles. Military spending hasn't had a lot to do with it.
Military spending in the US is actually integrated into the political system; higher-ups from these private military firms actually become employees in the FBI, DHS, DoD, etc... In this way they not only have a massive lobby in DC, but they actually also have their employees in positions that dictate the military spending habits of the various departments. They can directly sell to the government because they have one of their own in the government dictating what to purchase. A very good documentary on the rise of the military-industrial complex is Why We Fight. It documents the rise of this machine, its integration into the political system since World War 1 and the current state of privatization, contracting out and government infiltration as I outlined above.

Excactly, its just another way the State puts public money in private hands, and try to keep Capitalism rolling.
Military spending has nothing to do with Military need, the United States military does'nt need to be half as big as it is, its about the economy (a lot of it is at least).

I think a better question will be, when will the US collapse just from the national debt in general? Bush x2 (maybe x3, I'll need to look at the numbers again) the national debt.

I think along with the financial meltdown the US is on a decline it will never recover fully from.

The US has gone from a superpower to just a world power. We were too drunk and hangover the end of the Cold War with "Rah Rah Capitalism" that now the US is suffering. The only thing that can put the US back up to a super power is a major war (like what WW2 did to the economy).

Also a war that the majority of the human population would most likely not to survive which could either end the modern era or bring about human extinction due to the world's nuclear arsenal only if their too stupid to use them hence I don't understand why their even created in the first place since the majority people in power or in science have no common sense or no oversight which is a scary thing which this flaw could be our downfall.

Would of been nice if our constitution was actually followed by the government...

I think Obama will cut military spending, as Clinton did, on the path towards a balanced budget.
I'm kind of disappointd for a couple reasons. First, the government can always spend more money on me. I don't mind at all. Second, the f-22 is just so fucking badass.

Did Clinton really decrease military expenditure? The military budget underneath Clinton increased by 53 billion dollars along with a 115 billion dollar cut in Medicaid and a 30 billion dollar cut in Food Stamps.

On the same note, I highly doubt that Obama will make any significant decrease in military spending. He is a war monger just like the rest of those clowns. Obama simply wants to reallocate our troops to other corners of the world, not bring them home.
