I have been part of this forum for maybe a week now right? Well that means its been about a week that I have been a... Leftists of some sort. I came here because I read a article on Communism that not only made sense but to me would be awesome, so something like Communism would be a good thing to support but my Christian up bringing was very conservative and until now I held very conservative ideas (which I think is just a product of my upbringing :( ) I of course am now thinking for myself and agree with communism and stuff (now that I am getting a hold on things) I of course cant help but feel like a poser lol! seeming as it was only a week ago I was against you guys, but thats the thing its polotics and it was a quick realization and I love Communism now lol back then I was never really presented with the problems (worker problems, pretty much having our labor stolen from us) so now my views are changing and so drastically within a week!! wow! how the hell do I start presenting my views? I feel like I would be very contradictive of myself.... how did you guys start being open about your political ideas?

Read a lot. In the beginning I had a hard time articulating my ideas, but as time progressed and my grasp tightened I feel I can tackle most things in a compelling manner. I think if you stick around the board and read what others say you'll fare much better as well.

Political realisation can be a profound occurrence, especially if previous held assumptions about the world suddenly loose their meaning or indeed suddenly and fundamentally become unjustified. Having your entire belief system shattered and reconstructed using ideas that contradicted previous notions is an interesting experience and one that should be embraced.

As one gets older the ability to conceptualise and criticise becomes more astute and unfortunately the first victim of that change are usually the parents. Parents will teach their children "truths" about the world, but when their children get older and question that previously held self-evident reality, ultimately you realise that those truths and that reality were in fact nothing more that personal assumptions: Homosexuals are bad, God is good for example or more aptly, capitalism is good, communism is bad. As a young person you have no reason to question that, but in the course of your intellectual development, specifically in your case, dissent from those ideas and a challenge on their meaning finds an important place. I'm particularly pleased by the amount of threads you have started, you certainly have a desire to learn and that's a very good thing. It certainly doesn't make you a poser.

On the question of "presenting your views" or being open about them, I would say that you should just take your time, read more, speak to people, ask questions. If someone says something that you disagree with, challenge it. If someone argues one of those assumptions, dissent from it. Karl Marx said "debate is progress" and by that he means that to question everything is to develop our understanding of the world, of our role within it and ultimately how to change the world.
