Did anybody see the Dispaches program (Uk C4) on children accused of whitchcraft in the Niger Delta?
It was disgusting, basically the preachers get paid to conuct deliverances (exorcism) after torturing children into admiting they are whitches. Some are starved, others macheted, others burnt with acid, one had a 3 inch nail nailed into her head.
Some ways to stop a child witch is crying in the night, fever and other symptoms commom to poverry striken Nigeria. Many children are branded whitches or wizards when the family suffer a death of a close relative, poverty etc.
Many are abandoned by their families after being accused by a preacher of being a whitch or wizard.
