What are some bands you like, even though their overall message is somewhat..."reactionary"? Homophobic, racist, sexist, just overall disgusting, whatever...

Here's a few of mine:

GG Allin
NWA
The Mentors
The Anti-Nowhere League
Fear
Burzum
The Geto Boys
The Meatmen
The Dead Boys

I like those very same bands, except I never heard of The Meatmen and I dont like Burzum.

I also like The Red Lights (not really reactionary, but they do use the word faggot quite alot).
The Sex Pistols, Ramones, Iggy Pop, The Dictators and basically all punkbands often said some shit to shock people wich could be seen as reactionary by some (****s).

With NWA I also like their solo-carreers especially Ice Cube and Eazy-E, Dr. Dre's first solo-album (The Chronic) was very good but he sucked afterwards, same goes for Snoop Dogg, MC Ren's had his moments.
I also listen to Necro for shits and giggles, but he's not very good.

Also I dont like progressive rock, I mean Genesis?, Rush?, Yes?.... Zzzz....
What's so reactionary about The Dead Boys?

like some reactionary OI! bands like 4-skins, the last resort and condemned, also hardcore like Agnostic-front, Madball and hatebreed.

the ramones where mostly reactionary bastards as well.

Burzum crosses the line for me, i cant listen to openly nazi music, although some of the lyrics of Brigade M (the dutch screwdriver) are realy funny (antifa hahaha and no tival in my tefal are my favorites)

Skrewdriver
Combat 84
Les Villains
Patriot
Stormwatch
The Templars
Brutal Attack
Midtown Bootboys
Arresting Officers
Anti-Heros

And tons of tough guy hardcore.

I probably listen to more reactionary music than revolutionary music.

I really dig Skrewdriver's first album All Skrewed Up although that was the old Skrewdriver where the bandmembers (except for Ian Stuart and some other members) werent nazi-shits and it didnt have any reactionary messages to speak of.
An-ti-so-ci-al and their cover of Wont Get Fooled Again are class.

Antisocial is the only song I really like off that album, its all about back with a bang and blood & honor, honorable mention to voice of britain.

I've only heard one Skrewdriver song in my life, but I thought it was actually pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but pretty solid Oi! punk.

It wasn't a racist song, though.

Anti-Nowhere League, and The Beatles...the latter because they preach a more pacifistic approach to things, however I still fucken love em.

NWA, Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Ramones, Buju Banton (Til Siloh so after he'd dropped is homophobic views) some other rasta religious regggae is amazing! O can handle the Rasta stuff as it is anti-colonial and anti-racist and anti-establishment even if it is religious.

Er..Nirvana?
Other than that, pretty much everything I listen to could be considered quite progressive...KMFDM, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, some stuff by John Lennon...I'm not sure about Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, some Linkin Park, Rammstein, or Rage Against the Machine.
Hm...there is one reactionary song I can think of.
I at least like the tune to "Revolution" by the Beatles.

They only really have two albums.
Stiv Bators is awesome, he's like Iggy in a way only even crazier.

Ya, but they have some bootlegs floating around.

And I do love Stiv Bators. He doesn't seem anti-progressive to me at all, seemed pretty apolitical.

Are these bootlegs online?, I'd love some more Dead Boys.
The second album was good, but not as vicious as the first one.

If you like the Dead Boys you should check out Rocket From The Tombs.

Great proto-punk band, later split up and some members created Pere Ubu and the others The Dead Boys.

To be honest, I mostly just included the Dead Boys because of their habit of dancing around on stage wearing Nazi uniforms. ;)

I forgot about Ol' Dirty Bastard, as well.

Pirate Utopian

In that case The Stooges are reactionary too.

I also love the electric eels, maybe not really reactionary but they used nazi-symbolism and speeches to shock people.

I'm a serious fan of gabber but apparently alot of gabber artists are associated with the neo-nazi movement.

Sasha
23rd November 2008, 13:48
not the artists (they are black or gay or both half of the time) but it used to be prety bad with the fans in the 90's, its a lot better now though (only the terror scene is still shite)
(dutch spoken) movie made about racism and gabber as an promo for an big anti-racist gabber party in 2005. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4283316365257082315)
neophyte (my favorite gabber artist) had lots of problems with racist crap at his shows so he made this song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae9jY-IwyP8&feature=related
and if you are ver in amsterdam, visit one of the partys of zuipclub (http://www.zuipclub.nl/), they are a young/new party organisation with a very outspoken anti-racist stance (they even organised a few AFA benefits)
as long as you stick to the big name artists your save that they are not involved with fascism.

edit: and you might like the (unofficial) dutch AFA theme song (http://afadenhaag.antifa.net/Antifa%20Den%20Haag%20-%20Antifa%20Hooligans.mp3) (breakcore)

What I always found interesting was the fact that one of Rotterdam Terror Corps' members is black.Yeah the crowd seems to have a serious skinhead element to it.Can't wait to attend a few events, will have to travel a bit to do so as there's none here in Ireland unfortunately.

Cheers for the link.

Any of you who know anything about Darby Crash know why the band is pretty anti-progressive. Well, maybe he's progressive in a quite different way..

When I listen to music I don't really pay much attention to the possibility of there being an 'anti-progressive' message somewhere within it. I feel sorry for you if you analyze all art from that sort of perspective.

There are many forms of art that indulge in 'anti-progressive' content for the purposes of parody and satire.

Darby Crash claimed to be a fascist. He said that fascism was good but that it had just been put to use by bad people. Read about the germs/darby crash, its interesting stuff. Darby used to woo these young girls and try to use "mind control" on them. (really they were just infatuated with him, but whatever)

The Ramones aren't reactionary, only Johnny was, or at least as far as I know. They had some political songs, like Bonzo Goes to Blitburg, which is anti-Reagan. I also love the Bad Brains, but during a large part of their career they were homophobic douche bags.

I was really into hip hop about four years ago, but it really died down due to a sense of originality and creativity so rock has been in my life for a minute again. I just got the Kanye West Album and been hearing that new common shit and really like it...Kanye West is a bit of an Emo and can't really sing, but all in all he is such a great producer( on a Roland 808 in the entire album! He pretty much creates a new hip hop pop genre). And even though he can't sing, he is even more expressive then his rap albums...

Common got the same type of style going, but in his case he stayed more to his lyrical rapping style...These two MCs are changing music in hip hop and I really think they are the future artistically in this genre.

I'm still into those two and Nas, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Jedi Mindtricks, and so much more :o

I suppose most of the bands I listen to would end up in the OI section on one or several accounts, but then if music's really important to you that's what happens.

On the other hand...

Skrewdriver
Brutal Attack
Midtown Bootboys
Arresting Officers

Seriously, how can you listen to this shit without being affected by the lyrics somehow? I had people say "try Skrewdriver, real good music but the lyrics suck", but I found it impossible to blank on their message.

How can one appreciate a band's 'musicianship' when the guy is shouting "nigger nigger go away, nigger nigger out of here", "white power for britain", or SS slogans like "our pride is our loyalty"?
