How does communism deal with the possibility of expanding into space, and even encountering other intelligent life forms? Is space exploration a thing that would continue under communism?

I think it is imperative that a communist society should seek to expand beyond the surface of this one planet - that way a global disaster such as an asteroid impact doesn't completely wipe out civilisation, let alone communist society.
As for ETs, there should be some kind of First Contact procedure. I'm not sure if scientists have one already worked out or are working on one currently.
Is space exploration a thing that would continue under communism?
I would certainly hope so.

Why wouldn't it?
I'm not sure how a way to organise society is connected to dealing with aliens, but if they're friendly why should there be any problems?

I think communism would deal with space exploration really well, what problems do you think there would be?
Is space exploration a thing that would continue under communism?
it better

We have to be careful with "what would" questions. The main principle is democratic control of the industries and services by the people. The principle isn't about what particular things the people will probably decide to do with the industries and services after we have won that democratic control over them. The goal is the people's ability to decide.
If I get one vote on the issue, I will vote in favor of space technology. This is no emergency, but in a couple billion years the sun will become a red giant and melt the earth, so people will need to travel somewhere else. There's no way to know whether a lot of time will be needed to deal with the speed of light limitation.

Once all other needs have been met and the world is truly fixed, erqual and prosperous, space exploration would be right and interesting.
Imagine, countless millions of new worlds to be explored!

Maybe we'll encounter aliens who take control of earth, enslave the humans and then communism will make a glorious revival!

I think that view is somewhat misguided. Those aims aren't mutually exlusive, they might just even go hand in hand most of the time.
Think of how the limited recourses given to space exploration up to now has already spawned advances in communications technology, enabling such things as cellphones. Or the prospect of mining the moon and asteroids for recources, thus increasing material wealth that could consequetly aid in infrastructure building on earth. Space exploration, space travel, space transportations could all be very beneficial and provide solid support for our aims.

I suppose my main concern is how a communist society would facilitate possible interaction with other civilizations. How would a collection of anarchist communes, even if the whole Earth was covered in them, be able to respond to the complex social demands of space exploration and interaction? And if they're hostile there will be a need for a military, the list of possible problems goes on and on.

Well, even communists could always hope for a Code 9...
(sorry, I'm not in the mood to be serious atm)

Maybe aliens are monitoring the earth right now.
I imagine their report says:
"This human species is so irrational, they draw arbitrary lines on a map to divide their planet into 200 regions, and then each region tries to establish advantages for itself and disadvantages for the others. About half of their production capacity is used for fighting with each other. When they discovered nuclear energy they immediately used it as a weapon. There is no reason now for us to make contact with this illogical species. We will return in another three hundred years to see if they have changed their social system and are worth communicating with."

OMG I actually asked this same question today myself.
Generally no space until world revolution
