I always thought that Hollywood movies do not what the depth of thinking, but I think they are in the business model is always successful. "Che Guevara" was made into a movie, it is necessary to end the screening. In fact, the "Marxist" should be made into a movie ah. Think about Marx, the philosopher, revolutionary, wrote a thick layer of "Das Kapital", who is in exile. Together with his wife, Jenny, a friend and Engels, the great love, great friendship. Hollywood does not understand the night? From the type of film, the film can be made into a film romantic tragedy of love, family ethics can be made into a film can even be made into a epic action movie. I believe in the Great Depression of the period, the box office will be very good. Moreover, Marxism is the Europeans take a Cannes prize is not the problem.
Because the writers, directors, actors are too stupid. They can not read <Capital> <Manifesto of the Communist Party>, Marx and Engels on their great friendship has not shown the ability, they do not understand Marx and Jenny of romantic love.

The problem is money. A "professional" movie costs in the range of millions of dollars, if not more. Why would Hollywood willingly spend that much money to spread the ideas of communism?

Good point although it's a movie I would be interested in seeing. Too bad many would just consider it to be "propaganda".

Gramsci's idea of hegemony, the mainstream media is merely propaganda for the ruling classes.

Although it costs too much to produce a movie, a script can be written. Many people could contribute ideas. I would enjoy a scene in which Marx confronts the Young Hegelians and walks away from them for the last time, after he has moved forward in his understanding, and they are still stuck in their old habits. Or the scene where Marx has a promise from Bauer that he'll get him an academic position, but Bauer has gotten fired by the University of Berlin, and so Marx has to make other plans. How about sitting alone in the apartment house in Paris in 1844, lonely, writing love letters to Jenny, and scribbling notebooks about his new idea of alienation. How about the publisher constantly bugging him to submit his manuscript for Das Kapital and he feels that it isn't ready. How about the time Marx called Bakunin an ass.
edit typo: 1844, not 1944

Perhaps a scene in which Marx reads 'Statism and Anarchy' while making notes on it? Y'know, that book?

I think a movie based around Marx would probably sell like hotcakes, actually.

You know, I'm fairly sure there is already a movie about Marx's life. Not in English though. Well look here (http://www.themovieinsider.com/m4100/1/karl-marx/). Seems to be a movie possibly coming out next year.

Yes, there seems to be a German film made about Marx already in existence:

That's what they want you to think. :ninja:
Incidentally, Marx's love poems to Jenny were horrible.
Jenny! If we can but weld our souls together, then with
contempt shall I fling my glove in the world’s face, then
shall I stride through the wreckage a creator!

Good question. I've always wondered why theres never been a hollywood take on the Russian revolution. I suppose because unlike the nazi era, it's very difficult to portray it in a negative light.

What language were they originally written in? If it was German or otherwise not English, I can easily see something getting lost in translation.

Reds was pretty good. But I think a movie about Marx would flop. It wont be made by Hollywood.

I don't think many non-Americans have heard of him, to be honest. Even within revolutionary circles.
Marx on the other hand is known by everyone, revolutionary or not.

Most Americans have never heard of him either. He was the most influential socialist leader here also an anti-war leader. They're already making a movie about Marx.

1844! Thanks, I just fixed my typo.
You know another typo that I usually make? -- I often type something about the search for water and evidence of ancient life on the planet Marx.

not enough intrest. If it would sell then maybe they would do it, but it wouldn't sell. Americans (and other nations too) are not all that interested in Marx. But who knows, if they put enough advertisment behind any movie it can do well. It would have to be a very deep drama with a good director. All in all though I doubt it would get past the producers. Them being big capitalist, why would they want to make a movie that could jepordise them and their partners. Also for every movie with communist ideals there's going to be many more with nationalist ones, like World Trade Center, Red Dawn and Indiana Jones. The closest you are going to get to a communist blockbuster is fight club, and thats not saying much (although it is a good movie).
