Best UK bands?

I'm gonna go with Radiohead, Pink Floyd, LZ, the Smiths, and Manics, mainly for their political stuff and personal reasons.

My top ten, not in any order:

1. The Smiths
2. Swell Maps
3. Radiohead
4. Joy Division
5. Belle & Sebastian
6. The Fall
7. Idlewild
8. British Sea Power
9. Orange Juice
10. Biffy Clyro

I also strongly diagree with lumping Blur/Gorillaz and New Order/Joy Division together. Very different bands with very different sounds.

I can't believe the poll doesn't include the Beatles or the Rolling Stones.

Anyway, I've gone for The Smiths. I loved them at the time and the songs just get better with time.

BTW, by any standard, the Manic Street Preachers suck.

Anyway the best ones were missed out of the list. one good thing about the UK is its goth and punk heritage. how dare you miss out such bands as the Sex pistols, the clash, bauhaus, the cure, zombina and the skeletones, the sisters of mercy, the specials etc

The Beatles dont completly suck (they did after Help!) but cant compare to the Pistols. :cool:

The Beatles have such an enormous back catalogue and were such skilled songwriters, it's almost impossible not to like at least some of their tunes. But overall, I don't really like them that much - something about their music strikes me as utterly sexless.

Best UK band ever were probably the Stones. Bowie, Pistols, and T.Rex are also high up in my list.
