I think that you could in part.
Primary and Secondary precepts

Whether or not acts lead towards God depends upon weather the action fits the purpose that humans are made for. The main purpose of human nature is to preserve the self and the innocent, to reproduce, to acquire knowledge, to live in an ordered society and to worship God. These are primary precepts. Acts that are in accordance with the main human purpose are good. Acts not in accordance with human purpose are bad. Secondary precepts are ruling about things that we should or wouldn’t do because they uphold or fail in the primary precepts.

Aquinas separates the secondary precepts from the primary ones. Reproduction is a primary precept. The purpose of the gentiles is for reproduction. Masturbation is wrong because it doesn’t lead to new life, doesn’t fulfil its purpose and doesn’t glorify god. Having sex with a heterosexual partner is good because the genitalia are used for their purpose which is the primary precept of reproduction and so it leads towards God as an end, and the action itself glorifies God.

Yes of course you can, the simploe fact is that to be a catholic you should not use any form of contraception or have abortions. This means that the Birth rate would be higher than a none catholic country, also with modern technological improvments in health care and medican the older people live longer, so the birthrate would increase and the death rate decrease in any that country. Leading to an increase of population.

RAM you are looking to far back, but AK is on the nail. The Catholic Church does not support the use of any contraceptives, and the males that control those contries are onside.

All that I am doing is providing the context on which there view of no contraception is based on! The Natural Moral Law thoery is screwed up for me! It supports rape rather than masturbation becuase at least in rape the gentiles are bing used for there purpose of reproduction! Also in stages 1 and 2 of the demographic transition model as strick religous belifs are followed whihc may include Catholocism

Being a Catholic (but not really a practicing one nor do i believe in God) and having a past at Catholic Schools I can tell you this.

I once had a priest tell me that masturbation was only a sin if you did it in excess and if you thought of dirty things while you were doing it. (which i can't imagine someone thinking of anything else)

I have many Catholic friends, and alot come from gigantic families. I have a Catholic friend will 11 brothers and sisters. It's not weird for people that are like 16 years old to have baby brothers and sisters in the "Catholic Culture" I guess you could say.

My Dad is a very traditional Catholic, but he got a vascectomy (sp?) anyway. I only have one younger sister.

Are they partially to blame? Probably. Then again, you have to put the same amount of blame on people who have unwanted children or put them up for adoption and keep them rather than get abortions.

YES!!! You must go to the highest building you can find and throw your self off. [j/k]

No but seriously most people dont give a rats ass if your catholic or even worship the moon. However a guy called Redstar2000 has a very serious problem with religion, I would avoid debates about religion with him.

To argue about religion go the theory section in one of the two threads there. We would love more theist interaction :)

some people were moaning that the catholic church in Africa was hampering the fight against AIDS and one catholic bishop decided to take the advice and started telling people that while he thought contraceptive use was wrong, he thought it was more wrong to spread HIV. Unsurprisingly, the western catholics went nuts.

Then create the topic here. It is much more wide reaching and interesting than this topic is.
