Just read Planet of Slums by Mike Davis. Anyone else read this? what did you think about it?

My initial opinion on the book has been very positive. I think he does a great job of keeping class as a significant factor in the problems. I felt it was a really good read, some people suggested it was too dense with statistics however I kind of like it because it's a good source for information and a lot of the second half of the book is less dense with statistics I felt. I also felt he makes some really good insights and he uses a lot of interesting arguments from very interesting and well known scholarly sources using both urban studies, development and poli sci, economics, etc. to address the problems.

It's on my list of to-get books in the near future, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. :(

I've read large parts of it for various anthro classes. Yeah, from what I can remember I think Davis is on target when it comes to the relationship between class, slums, and urban areas. He sure does paint a stark picture which I think many 'first worlders' aren't to aware of.
