During the last couple months, I've seen myself transformed from a reformer to a revolutionary. It's become so obvious that reforming the capitalist system is nothing short of a band-aid on a wound that has been infected since day one. There is no healing this wound unless serious action is taken to heal it.
I don't think it's up for debate. We need a massive movement to bring revolutionary change. Yet, one of the problems of the Socialist and Communist movement is that we fail to unify. We become fragmented and let this be our downfall.
In the search for what I believe is the best banner to rally behind (Of course, the worker's banner is the only one we truly need), I came upon the Party for Socialism and Liberation with their candidate for president, Gloria La Riva. After spending the last month or so reading everything I could find, I feel I'm much more educated than I was before. I will be able to register to vote in nine months.
So tell me. Would anyone here seriously object to this? Does anyone have any other paths they would recommend studying before I make such a decision? I've been scratching the surface for anything contrary to my beliefs in this party. I had a couple issues with some beliefs on China (I'm not much of a Mao fan), but that is about all.
So I'm curious about what you all think. Is this a good decision?

If you feel that voting for a protest party is a good decision, then its great that you prefer the Party For Socialism and Liberation, which is i think the best leftist party in the US. You could vote for them, or the Socialist Workers party, or the SPUSA; but IMO voting is ineffective.
Also, being able to vote in 9 months is a little late, since Obama just won.

The PSL is a great party because it's revolutionary and marxist. I filled out their membership application and got a response within about 2 weeks, and received free newspapers and magazines. So in my opinion, it's great, you should definately become involved with a revolutionary organization; more people need to! I did also vote for La Riva and Puryear earlier today, hopefully if enough other people did too, or even for other socialist parties, at least a few more people will notice and the seeds of revolution will be sewn, youknow'am sayin?

I'm not sure I like their shining support of Cuba. Although there are aspects of it that I like, I still view it as a police state.

I'm wondering: how are these getting paid? It still costs money to produce it after all.

Oh, I know. I'm looking towards the future. Plus, La Riva isn't on the ballot in Ohio.

I don't think there are any modern socialist regimes that don't deserve some criticism. Still, they deserve much more praise than the elitist oligarchy in the United States that fuels class conflict.

Isn't class conflict a good thing? =P

Yes, including some good stuff from me, read it. ;)
There is no party in the U.S. capable of leading a workers' revolution, but it doesn't really matter, because there isn't an impending workers' revolution. If we ever have one, none of the parties that now exist will end up leading it-at least not in their current forms, since all parties change over time.
What's important for now is to find a party that does good work on issues you agree with. The PSL is big on organizing against the Iraq/Afghanistan wars (through it's antiwar arm, ANSWER) and against police brutality. I personally don't think those are the issues for me, as they aren't directly related enough to socialism/economic justice.
