Margot Honecker, the widow of First Secretary of the GDR SED Erich Honecker, received an award in July of this year from Daniel Ortega for her commitment (and her husband's) to that country's revolution. Hugo Chavez was also present.
I can't post the url because of my post count (I lost my old password and created a new account). But Google Margot Honecker, it's the second hit.

What else can you expect from a reformist government which banned abortion at all stages of pregnancy, even in cases where a woman has become pregnant as a result of rape or incest? Ortega was once a revolutionary and for a short time Nicaragua was a shining example of what can be achieved when people reject the power of the rich and take matters into their own hands, but this decision and all the other decisions he has made since he assumed office show that his politics have undergone a qualitative change - instead of being a revolutionary leader who commands the respect of the working masses, he is a reformist leader who bows to the power of the Catholic Church and allows foreign companies to exploit Nicaragua's natural resources without any system of binding regulations.
The idea that East Germany had some kind of "revolution" is absurd, as state ownership was imposed by a occupying power without the active participation of the working class or any other oppressed group, and less than ten years later the workers, whom the new government was supposed to represent despite the fact that only one party was allowed to take part in elections, revealed the moral bankruptcy of their government by taking to the streets and demonstrating against the imposition of higher work quotas. Ortega's support for Honecker reflects the fact that his own government came to power without a revolutionary upheaval, but through the established electoral procedures of the bourgeois state.

The current government recently decriminalized homosexuality though, which dates back to a right-wing government in the early 90's. So maybe he will make progress with abortion rights, I don't know. It was pretty bad what he did pushing for full restrictions on abortions. That's indefensible. The Sandinista Renovation Movement (a breakaway Sandinista party) opposed that and condemned the assault on women's rights. The Sandinistas are part of the Socialist International, which is made up of capitalist parties, so it's good to be skeptical of their politics. We should support the real socialist revolutionary parties in Nicaragua.
