maybe a kids film but still it holds an underlying message about the exploitation of the working class...

Just imagine the locusts with top hats to complete the effect.

Haha! Yea. That's true. The ants(proletariat) are all forced to work for the grasshoppers(bourgeoisie). I just realized this myself when you mentioned it. I haven't watched that movie since before I understood politics.

Antz was better, both in message and in content IMO.

hu, thats odd that disney would let a topic like that fly, especially to children. I always loved that movie and all the more reason to now. I am going to push to watch it in my j term sociology class :thumbup1:.

Yes, there was. Underlying message: benevolent rulers exist.

On some level, this movie must be confusing to kids. On the one hand, you have the whole population of ants revolting against the grasshoppers; on the other, they had to obey the queen.

Not to mention that the ants had four legs! :p

Not every film about struggle relates to the class struggle.

Yeah, A Bug's Life struggle was more akin to national liberation (i.e. the ants were resisting the imperialist grasshoppers) while Antz did have more class-strugglist elements IIRC.

Bee movie was suprisingly leftist too tbh.

I remember seeing this film as a kid. I think it was just around the time that Disney (well, Pixar) movies were still good. The evil locust leader got eaten by a bird at the end. At 10 years old, I'm afraid the idea of class struggle went completely over my head.

WTF! There's been so many animated insect films, I'm starting to get them all mixed up...

I never saw A Bug's Life, but come to think of it, Antz was political...oh and The Ant Bully also.
