It's getting to be that time (Halloween), so I figured I'd ask you all about what your favorite Horror films are.
I'm a big fan, so I'll keep it simple with a brief list:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Halloween
The Prowler
Cannibal Holocaust
Ichi the Killer
Audition
The Evil Dead Trilogy
Dead Alive
Re-Animator
The Shining
George Romero's Dead Trilogy
Suspiria
Black Sabbath
Profondo Rosso
Anthorophagus: The Grim Reaper
The Thing
Rituals
Ravenous
Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers (CHUD)
Those are a few of the ones that I really like.

Not a big horror fan so some of these might be more thriller.
American Psycho
The Grudge (original one)
Natural Born Killers
Night Of The Living Dead-trilogy
Evil Dead 1 & 2
Silence Of The Lambs
The Shining
I like alot of b-movies from 50s/60s and otherwise low-budget cultmovies, wich are quite often horrormovies.

American Psycho is pretty damn good.
I have a large collection of "extreme cinema" and Exploitation, but most of those films don't fall under the traditional definition of Horror, even though quite a few of them are "horrifying". (Like Pasolini's "Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom", for example, or "Men Behind the Sun".) In fact, a couple of the films I listed as Horror, like "Ichi The Killer", probably fit in that definition, as well.

I'm not into extreme gore snuff movies, I was referring more to oldies.
I know some guy who is into like video nasties but that stuff just groses me out, and not in a good way.

American Psycho is pretty damn good.Of course the movie was extremely tame compared to the book. Which was good though, reading the book was nearly enough to traumatize me..
I'm generally not that big a fan of horror movies, but one that scared me as kid was Tremors. Now when I looked for the english title for it, I noticed that it's classified as 'action/dark comedy'.. But whatever.
Now that I think about it, I rather enjoyed some scifi-horror movies too, such as the legendary Aliens 2 and Event Horizon.

I like the Saw series myself. They don't appeal to me because of the gore, but because of the suspense and twists. The doll was always very amusing to watch too.

It is pretty messed up.
Italian and CAT3 (Hong Kong) films tend to be the sickest, from my experience. Cannibal Holocaust and Human Meat Pies: The Untold Story are both quite a bit sicker than Salo (hell, I think even Ichi the Killer is).

Yay, another fan:thumbup1:
It's also one of my fav scary movies and in fact I often think it is underrated and def unappreciated by some who rally around the Jasons, Freddys and other mindless blood n' gore films. I find The Shining to be a movie that actually makes you think and slowly makes you wonder about the effects of severe isolation (in a creepy environment) could do to someone. Many movies that people claim to be scary I do not because I find them so unrealistic, I don't mean nitpicking unrealistic, I mean flat-out impossible. Other "scary" movies are simply suspenseful or clever in their set-up (Saw being a good example) A scary movie must have some believability for me to truly get unnerved by it. I also think that a lot of what people define to be "scary" would more accurately be called "shocking" or "gruesome" Truly scary movies should be able to get inside your head, double-check if the door is locked and make you turn the light on in the middle of the night
So with that being said, besides The Shining, I'll list:
Fire in the Sky
The Strangers
Rec
and finally
Jesus Camp :)
EDIT: Henry:Portrait of a Serial Kiler is shocking (though IMO not scary still a must-see for horror fans) and I am just starting to watch Japanese/Asian horror films like "Audition" and I while none have made my list yet there is definitely a psychological edge in them I do appreciate.

The Strangers was just OK, I thought. Supposedly it's based partly on the Manson killings, but there really is no connection that I can see.
I second the Jesus Camp. I was actually expecting that movie to be really funny, but I just came away from it depressed.
I need to see REC.

Nosferatu (Acient but still interesting to see one of the first horror films). It especially ammuses me how it was described at the time as "a symphany of terror". Its also interesting as it was the movie that inspired dracular, but instead of bats, he gets about by escoting coffins full of earth in which he was burried, and turns into a scoal of rats. Not terrifiying in todays day and age, but its interesting to see how the ideas have developed and influenced horror movies in the future.
I also liked the mothman prophercies. Although it is meant to be 'based on real events' I thought the ideas behind it made for a good story.
