How would your ideal society come about? What tactics and organizations would be needed to realize them? What would this future society and its government (if any) look like? Who would run them?

Why am I asking? No reason, really. I'm just curious, though especially so regarding our resident libertarians/ancaps. I see plenty of your theories and ideas, but little of how they would actually be achieved.

Well, here is a pretty good source on how NOT to achieve freedom:

Otherwise, I think achieving freedom starts in one's personal life. In today's society an individual is largest minority of them all. A statistically insignificant vote can't do much to change the course of politics, there is very little control in the realm of political freedom for the individual. However, an individual has far more control over his personal life and achieving personal freedom.

Living your principles in your personal life is a start. Freeing your personal life from as much coercion as possible is certainly a meaningful step in the right direction. Incorporating logic and rationality in your personal relationships , I believe , is very beneficial. I think once individuals are personally free they have a much better shot at obtaining political freedom together.

I like the society i live in. Realistically I guess the ideal society for me would one one extremely similar to the UK but without any private/religious schools, monarchy, landed gentry. I would also like to renationalise the rail industry, water, gas, electricity etc.

On the other hand if we are talking like ultimate impossible fantasy society then i guess an anarcho-communist society is best suited to my preferences. Despite that i would not call myself an anarcho-communist.

Is there a reason European countries still have monarchies? I'm truly curious. As an American, the idea doesn't resonate. Why pay taxpayer money for a sitcom?

Gene, ever been to DisneyWorld? As Americans we have the Magic Castle and everything that goes with it. All fun and games, everyone has a good time and everyone plays pretend and then goes home.

The Queen is Britain's Mickey Mouse. Nothing wrong with that--some pagentry a parde now and again, people wave flags and cheer.

Communism sometimes paints the world in to stark a light. Nothing wrong with playing pretend now and again.

There is something deeply wrong with it. Shes rich off my back, off the entire nations back. Not really the same as disney land, they have disney land in france, but they did the right thing and cut off the heads of their monarchs ages ago. Why should i pretend that a woman is born "better" than me and that i am her "subject".

Don't get me wrong, i am fairly patriotic for a lefty and i take great interest in britains history. But it is an inescapable fact that they are parasites.

I just think it's a waste of resources. At the very least they shouldn't have taxpayer money. But to each their own, I guess.

we have a monarchy because of stubborn royalist reactionaries desperate to cling onto the last bastion of the old empire.

Nationalism is the short answer. Monarchies provide people with a real sense of identity, even if the monarchies don't have any real power. It's quite a phenomenon. Ulster Socialist's comments is typical and unsurprising, but the fact of the matter is that a lot less people have a problem with the monarchy in England than you'd think.

I'm fine with the monarchy existing in this system as long as everyone who supports their continued existance shuts the fuck up about how benefits claimants are "sponging loafers". At least the money they recieve isn't enough to buy tons and tons of shiny, expensive & useless shit.

that probably isnt true for all cases actually. Not that i agree with the anti benefits brigade, and this was probably an isolated case about 2 weeks ago the gutter press launched a campaign against an migrant afghan lady who was alledgedly recieving the equivalent of £40 000 a month in benefits.

Needless to say they portrayed her migrant status in the most pejoritive light possible to give a wink and a nod to armchair nazis.

I dunno, myself. Visions of axes and guillotines dance around my mind every time I see the Royal Family. :D Maybe I have some French blood.

One of the chants this year, as we marched past the Swedish royal castle on Mayday, was: Our answer to monarchy? Do like France, guillotine!

i would much rather let them live and force them to make up for their idleness like doing all sorts of crappy jobs like sewer and toilet cleaning.
