I saw this news story and it's pretty disturbing.
Packs of robots will hunt down uncooperative humans (http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2008/10/packs-of-robots-will-hunt-down.html)
They are looking for contractors to provide a "Multi-Robot Pursuit System" that will let packs of robots "search for and detect a non-cooperative human".
What do you all think about this?

i think your 'terminator analogy' is horribly mis-analogous.
The terminator storyline was based on a malicious self aware program (skynet), not robots.

Yea, I mostly remember evil robots controlled by Skynet. But I think the proper term was 'artificially intelligent computer-controlled machines' who were bent on human destruction. And I'm pretty sure Schwarzenegger was a cyborg. I think the analogy still works.

 how could I?...

My Robocop analogy works better.

"since nowadays it is very difficult for us to make a robot capable of holding a coffee cup, i think that such scenarios are too far-fetched"

its difficult to make a robotic hand capable of doing that but creating a mechanism for pulling a trigger is easy.
creating a drone that operates without human input is possible just look at those predator drones over iraq and afghanistan those can attack on their own using AI and pre-programmed target data (like destroy any T-72 tank in area x) if the army allows them to.
they also have drone boats and south korea has robotic machineguns made by deawoo if im not mistaken on the border with north korea.

Yes, but lots of robots simultaneously dropping cups of coffee could pose a real danger. If there was enough of them, and the coffee was quite hot.

The fault is capitalism, not the robots.
