Some of you may be wondering just how Capitalism Day is celebrated. What's a person to do when so many wonderful consumer choices present themselves???
Do not worry. I'm here to take the fear out of Capitalism Day so it can be enjoyed by everyone. Well, everyone who has the money to enjoy it, and really, aren't they the ones who count? Right.
First, you have to wear something nice. Dolce and Gabbana is a good choice, or anything made by those little brown people in some terrible place that you don't have to think about. Since this is a special occasion, don't skimp! The more you consume the better you are, and what better way to celebrate capitalism than to buy an outfit you only wear once?
Now to the festivities. You cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, serve food yourself. In the finest capitalist tradition, you will have your meal catered, spending more for the fine delicacies to delight your guests than all of the wait staff could afford if they combined their assets. After all, what's the good of capitalism if you can't make people envy you? That's what our Founding Fathers wanted when they gave us this great freedom!
But Capitalism Day isn't all about looking good and eating well. It's to honor the men who bring us this wonderful life. No, silly, not the workers who struggle and toil in horrible places and actually do the work, barely getting by week after week, day after hopeless day. Who'd want to celebrate THAT? I mean the men who manipulate the government so we can have a better life than the people who work for a living. They are, truly, the best of the breed, and we should never forget that.
So look good, eat well, and make a toast to the men who keep the masses in their place.
Hey, come to think of it, EVERY day is Capitalism Day!

I wasn't talking about the gulags, and no, they've not been shut down. Just ask the people being held be the USA who are not allowed to even seek legal counsel and are held incommunicado. That's a gulag, worse, in fact, for even the Soviets allowed for sham trials.
Rather, I was referring to sweatshops. Surely you've heard of those. Created by capitalism, they are. I'm afraid you will have to try much harder. Your feeble attempt to change the topic (which is the exploitation of the working class by the owning class) only betrays the lack of arguments for the existence of sweatshops. Any more displays by you that are as pathetic as the one I'm responding to will elicit a humiliating lesson in reading comprehension. Don't do it again. If you've nothing to add, remain silent. Like the saying goes, it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. Words you should heed.

who exactly would celebrate "capitalist day"? the capitalists or their slaves?
it reminds of a kid asking why isn't there a children's day. the answer is because every day is childrens day, just like every day is capitlist day.

there IS a children's day, officially recognized by the UN. They are forgotten victims of war, famine, disease, far-right christian upbringing and labour exploitation. Capitalists are not.
If I remember correctly, December 2nd is actually "Show How Much You Love Capitalism By Deposing Your Boss And Taking Over The Means Of Production" day.

oh yeah, you mean like "war child" or whatever
but I really only meant that as an analogy to the slave supporters on this board. they just felt left out and envious of the united workers movements.

An excellent exemplification of your ignorance! Congratulations! Not only are you unaware of the origins of the gulags you display a severe deficiency of knowledge regarding what they actually were. The Gulags were named thus because they were set up by the Gulag, a branch of the soviet secret police that administered concentration camps, forced labor camps, and transit prisons. Unless the Gulag is operational in the USA they cannot possibly exist there.
Your comparison between the Gulags and camp X-ray is what I find most amusing. People were sent to the Gulags for their political views and non-proletarian social backgrounds; people are imprisoned in camp X-ray for conspiring to kill Americans. Prisoners in the Gulags were used as slaves; the terrorists at Guatanamo bay are not. Millions of innocent people died in the Gulags; no terrorists have died in camp X-ray.
"Rather, I was referring to sweatshops. Surely you've heard of those. Created by capitalism, they are."
What kind of alternative do you propose to people working in sweatshops? Prostitution perhaps? You will find that the money earned in sweatshops is equal to or greater than the local alternatives. Perhaps this is the reason people stay on.

Gulag is often used as a generic term, and we all know that. Splitting hairs is the terrain of the weak and desperate, undoubtedly familiar territory to you.
You say that the prisoners in Cuba were conspiring to kill Americans, but that's simply speculation, and not even well-founded speculation. The fact is there are 664 people being held there, some for more than two years, without trial. In fact, the Justice Department has no plans to try most of them which shows only that there is no evidence at all against them. They are simply being held without even the rights of POWs. For someone who says that others should get their facts straight, you show a serious need to do so yourself. Your statement is completely false. It demands that a conviction has already been determined when a trial hasn't even taken place.
As for sweatshops, I suggest following the labor laws that are on the books but ignored in many countries. That's right, I'm suggesting the very radical notion that capitalists obey the law, something they are not used to doing.
According to the National Labor Bureau, sweatshops don't even pay a living wage:
Country..........Earned Wage..........Living Wage
El Salvador.........$0.59.......................$1.18
Honduras.............0.43......................... 0.79
Nicaragua.............0.23........................ .0.80
Haiti......................0.30................... ......0.58
China....................0.23..................... ....0.87
I think demanding that capitalists pay a living wage is good place to start, don't you?
After all, it's not like there's not a lot of money floating around, even in the textile industry:
Retail Price: $100
Retailer: $50
Manufacturer: $50=
Keeps $12.50 to cover expenses & profit
Spends $22.50 on textiles
Pays $15 to the contractor
Contractors (the people who directly employ garment workers): $15
Keeps $9 to cover expenses & profit
Pays $6 to the workers
Workers: $6
I recall reading a piece in which the average increase in cost per shirt to the consumer would be fifteen cents if workers' wages were doubled in the sweatshops. That's a price I'm willing to pay.
Unlike you, I see solutions. You only see prostitution as an alternative. What a very small world you must live in.

What LL says about the gulags is quite true, however they are just the Russian word for for what we call consentration camps or slave camps.
Interesting fact about consentration camps is that it was capitalists in the former British empire who invented them. LL's hero Winston Churchill had a number of them set up himself, one of them used to exist on the Isle of Man.
So LL you like to go on about the Gulags of the crazed Dictator Stalin. He just happens to be socialist. So you generalise all socialists in this way. Well can i generalise all capitalists in that way because of Hitler???
You guys have put more people into consentaration camps than even Stalin did.
SO SHUT THE FUCK UP, you crazed little Nazi.

Wow capitalism day!! Woooweee! I wonder if it will be like may day, all the capitalists go out on the streets to protest about how the price of BMWs has gone up and why the ppl in sweatshops are being paid at all!! In fact im gonna wait in tepidation for the momentous day because no one is gonna do shit. They just thought up some shitty day so dicklickers shit LL here and DC can rant on bout how great it is. In all honesty i dought they will even leave their trailers for it, maybe they might splash out and order themselves a pizza while they type with greasy hands how great the world is, before settling down to take notes on Delta Force 17. von Mises,
I'm not sure what Cuba has to do with sweatshops which profit Nike, Disney, etc. Care to explain the connection or are you simply desperate to try to change the topic?
As for economics, isn't that something your namesake should have learned before he went spouting the bullshit that no one believes? (Lest you're in doubt, the answer to that is yes.)

I bet the family's will all gather for a bucket of KFC, wash it down with a coca cola and follow that up with a tub of hagen daz. none of it requires utensils either. the hagen daz is traditionally passed to each family member to the next and they just lick it right out. its a capitalist day tradition. then they pass out coupons and gift certificates and credit cards. everybody's favourite holiday.

Just wondering, but what is the point of 'capitalism day'? It sounds like the waste of a day.
Do cappies march on this day celebrating the oppression of the proletariat? Or do they celebrate the meritocratic (as they would see it, though it is inaccurate) system? Or celebrate the extreme wealth that they have amassed at the expense of the masses?
I guess they wouldn't march (can't get the Versace shoes dirty)... Do you think a cappie could hire a proletariat to march for him? Tell him it's "International Day of the ... errr... Employee of the month (but if he had half a brain, he would say employee of the year) ?
It is pointless to me. Maybe the bourgeois could march to protest against the 8 hour day? Protest against weekends? Pro-war marches???
When's fascism day then? Is there an Anarchy day? A republican day? Theocracy day? Really, what is this shit???!!!
At least we (the proletariat) have a reason for our day!
