PREMIER Nathan Rees will privatise the State's trouble-plagued rail maintenance operations and sack management by the end of the year if Railcorp can't reach an agreement with unions on reform.
Mr Rees issued the warning this morning in the wake of disastrous poll results at the weekend which saw 22 per cent swings against the Government in Saturday's by-elections.
While 25 per cent of train maintenance is carried out by union workforce, they contribute to up to 50 per cent of train failures and incidents.
Former Premier Morris Iemma issued a similar warning to unions 12 months ago. However, the threats to privatise were never carried out.

Again! Another attack on the workers, right after the last premier - Morris Iemma - was forced out because of his attempts to privatise (just about everything, but in particular) the Energy sector.
