I want to learn a a language, and was wondering which language has the largest amount of socialist and anarchist literature originally written in that language.

German and French first came to mind, but I'd rather learn a language other than those.

Aye, German and French are what I instinctively think of.

I suppose Russian would be your next best shot.

To be honest mate, most of it will always be translated to English anyway, better to focus on learning the language which will generally be the most use, like something widely spoken, Spanish perhaps?

That kind of depends on what type of socialism you're interested in.

My first guess would be German or Russian, but I could be wrong.

To be honest mate, most of it will always be translated to English anywayNot always. Certainly not when you move beyond the major works and start delving into secondary accounts, historical pamphlets, etc. Even when works are in English they tend to lose quite a lot in the process of translation. As with any book its always best to read it in the author's language

As for the original question, it depends on what you're interested in. Obviously German has the lure of being the first language of Marx and Engels but its unlikely that you'll be too interested in many later German Marxists. Russian is also a good language with a wealth of material from the Bolsheviks and beyond to study. I'm not sure if the earlier 19th C Russian anarchists wrote in their mother tongue or French
