I'm looking for the names of these two famous Russian songs, they are instrumentals, as far as I know there are no lyrics. Its like Russian folk, folk dance music, very well known in the west, one of them was in the film Dr Zhivago in a dance scene.
I know this is vague but they're Russian folk songs that would be recognisable to people in the west, they sort of speed up as they go along, I'd kill to know them, thanks.

I'm learning Russian and I often listen to Russian radio stations via shoutcast, I think I have Dr Zhivago so i'll watch it tonight and see if i can find the song your referring to. I'll also try to find the other one although that may be harder..

I watched the film Dr Zhivago, unfortunately there was no dance scene in this film. Were you referring to a different film?
I was able to find out the songs name though, It is "Lara's Theme" for more information on the variations of the theme go to wikipedia.

Hope you find this helpful..

Korobelniki, possibly? This Russian folk song is well known in the west, principally for being the soundtrack of the 1980s video-game Tetris. Or perhaps Moscow Nights? This was written in the mid 1950s, and became a major hit when it was recorded by a British jazz band as Midnight in Moscow. It was regularly played on Moscow Radio during the latter years of the Soviet Union.

A year ago I had a similar question, although slightly less vague perhaps.
I got my answer at the forums from http://www.sovmusic.ru/english/
Some of them speak English and might perhaps be able to answer your question.
The site also has a wicked MP3 collection of Red Army marches if you're into that stuff.
