Tonight, at the dinner table, my Dad said the United States should be able to collect a portion of the revenue from the Iraqi oil sales until it pays off the money Bush used to fight the war in Iraq.

Sometimes, I wonder how I coexist in my family..

Every time I see a story in the media about kids killing their parents, my "working hypothesis" is that it's justifiable homicide.

That attitude is incredibly stupid. Tell your dad I said he's a fucking idiot.

My family are really critical, it drives me up the wall, they can never see the good in anything. They're only vaguely left cos the people in power are right, I hate that (well my brother is anyway, my rents are christians so that's why they're left).

If you eat the man's food, live under his roof, then you at least owe him the respect for his opinion. Is he abusive? Has your family mistreated you? If not is your job to sit and listen to what he is trying to teach you. You at least owe him a token amount of attention to hear him out, then form your own opinion.

My parents are very accepting of what I believe and they usually, in fact....99.9% of the time pretty tolerable about what I have to say, mostly because I don't live in their house...I pay for my own things...I give them moolah when I'm able to...but that's beside the point. I've gotten in various arguments with my family over the government....and they have let me make my point...after that they usually don't have much to say. I think that parents have a duty to listen to what their children to say as much as their children have to listen to what their parents have to say...it's a mutual relationship with mutual respect. So grant them the respect they deserve for putting up with you, but they must give the respect back...

;)

I completely agree with your idea of mutual respect, the problem is that my stepdad, takes me about as seriously as he would my little sister saying "gugugaga" (she's two). No respect for socialism in my house, none! Sad really, but I wouldn't kill him, he's just extremely ignorant.
