How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Bob Dylan was hippy scum. I have said it before, and I will say it again, I am not impressed with this man's bleeding heart. Quite frankly, I find this kind of whining to be very unmanly and wuss-like. The only thing blowing in the wind is the granules of dust that make up the hippy mindset. What we need is a "good old fashioned hippy womping".

Kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
Oh Lord kumbaya
Someone's crying my Lord, kumbaya
Someone's crying my Lord, kumbaya
Someone's crying my Lord, kumbaya
Oh Lord kumbaya
Repeat the verses with someone praying, singing, laughing, or anythng else you wish.
Thanks to Katherine Delany, who sent me this more "modern" version of Kumbaya. I don't know the new tune though... anyone willing to teach me?
Somebody's singing Lord, Kumbaya (Oh-oh-oh)
Somebody's singing Lord, Kumbaya (Oh-oh-oh)
Somebody's singing Lord, Kumbaya,
Singing Rainstorm, Firewind, Kumbaya.
Kumbaya, kumbaya. (clap, clap)
Kumbaya, kumbaya. (clap, clap)
Kumbaya, kumbaya. (clap, clap)
Kumbaya, kumbaya. (clap, clap)

Here is a song dedicated to all the f*cking posers on this bulletin board. I thought it to be most appropriate.
Tool
"Hooker with a Penis"
I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a
Dope Beastie t, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT,
From '92,
The first EP.
And in between
Sips of Coke
He told me that
He thought
We were sellin' out,
Layin' down,
Suckin' up
To the man.
Well now I've got some
A-dvice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I'm the man,
And if I'm the man,
Then you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.
So I've got some
Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point your finger
You should know that
I'm the man,
If I'm the fuckin' man
Then you're the fuckin' man as well
So you can
Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.
All you know about me is what I've sold you,
Dumb fuck.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.
I sold my soul to make a record,
Dip shit,
And you bought one.
All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar
So...Shut up and
Buy my new record
Send more money
Fuck you, buddy.
Another one of my favorites by Tool
"Aenima"
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks
Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.
Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.
It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks
Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.
Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.
Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this
Silly shit, stupid shit...
One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.
Learn to swim.
Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.
Learn to swim.
Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.
Learn to swim.
Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.
Learn to swim.
Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.
Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.
I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.
I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

No, that song spoke of ignorance and hypocrisy, traits prevalent on this board. Are they traits shared by all members? No. Does the message fit with many of the trendy communists that frequent this site? Sure. Even many of the hardcore communists here will agree with that.

GW. Do you realize that the 2 songs of Tool's that you posted actually have anti capitalist lyrics?
I'm surprised you listen to a left band like Tool.
Ghost Writer

This isn't a fucking Rorschach test, buddy. The lyrics are as plain as day and have absolutely nothing to do with anti-capitalism, just anti-bullshit. Therefore, I can assume that Maynard would be anti-Disgustipated, as he clearly has no tolerance for stupidity, which is clearly spelled out in both of the songs that I listed. Surely you can see how the man states he is a hardcore capitalist in "Hooker with a Penis", since he admits, rather adamantly, that he is only interested in selling albums, even to dumbfucks like yourself.
"All you read and

Aenima is clearly an attack on the kind of shallow materialism that drives today's modern idiot, but in no way does it take a anti-capitalist stance. The only rhing the song does exhibit is a pro-chaotic desire to see people get their "just deserts". Surley this song takes a stance against bullshit, and exhibits a desire to witness the mass destruction of a state that has become the center for the kind of nonsense listed in detail. Your interpretation of this song as an anti-capitalist anthem is purely a product of your own jaded viewpoint, as it ignores the fact that this band benefits greatly from the capitalist system.
As for Tool being what you consider leftist, I think you are attributing anything that is great to your twisted ideology, and this is clearly wishful thinking. I think if you listened to Tool that you would find that they barely believe in anything at all. Look at the inside jacket cover of Aenima and you will read:
"Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing."
Although I do not agree with this message, it is clear that Tool adheres to this philosophy, are lack thereof. Any ideological fervor on there part would undercut the sort of lack of a belief system that they most certainly have. Maynard is a futilist, nothing more.

Please don't listen to music you don't understand. It would be awful simplistic to think the only message being conveyed by Maynard here is just a statement about someone buying into a fad.
If you look a little deeper, I think you would realize that he is also talking about he marketing of products. How everyone is duped into the "fad". That is a function of the capitalist system. As far as Aenima being an affront to shallow materialism, I couldn't agree more. Materialism being a component of....ahhh yes...Capitalism.
"All you read and
Wear or see and
Hear on TV
Is a product
Begging for your
Fatass dirty
Dollar ......
(Tool is being sarcastic in this song btw, sorry you couldn't hear that)
As far as this statement from Maynard:"Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing."
I'm surprised you posted that. It kind of points to Maynards core beliefs being somewhere along the lines of anarchism or at the very least nihilism. Either of these is a much closer idealism to socialism than capitalism.

This reminds me of a conversation I had regarding Redstar2000's old signature:
"Communism is about freedom or it is about nothing."
In repsonse to his ridiculous quote, I wrote the following:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If communism being about freedom is P, and communism being about nothing is Q, the disjuctive argument follows:
P v Q
~P
-------
Q
As you can see, the facts do not support the claim that Marxism is about freedom. This is evidenced by Marx's own ten recommendations for the implementation of communism. By denying property, you are denying freedom. Therefore, P is false. Since the disjunct is being used in the exclusive sense, this makes Q true. Your argument can only lead to the conculsion the Marxism is about nothing. How does it feel to believe in nothing, Redstar2000?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must say that your assertion that socialism fails to form a viscous belief system is 100% correct. Since that is the case one must question the mental health of anyone advocating an ideology that lacks a solid code of ethics.
However, my claim that someone who believes that beliefs wrong should not subscribe to an ideology, if they wish to avoid the complete hypocrisy of such a logical inconsistency. It amazes me how people are dumb enough to believe that bands care more about some cause than they do the money the rake in from the illiterate public. If you believe Tool is communist, then you would aslo be fooled into thinking that Zach de Lacuckaraca cares nothing about his bottom line. Musicians are the ultimate capitalists, like it or not.
As for the lyrics, I think you are concentrating only on those lines that fit into your skewed ideology, and ignoring the rest of the message. The message is clear to anyone who is willing to listen to it as it is stated. Clearly, you are not ready to view things from an objective viewpoint, and thus you choose to remain ignorant on many things.
I have some advice for you. Drop the ideological fervor, and seek the truth. To be honest, it is that much more satisfying than clinging to some failed theory that can not stand up to application in the real world.

Ghost. I didn't say that you're explanation or understanding of the lyrics was wrong, but simply that there was more written into them than just what appears at first blush.
I never said that Tool was a communist band or had no interest in the bottom line. I think we all know that bands realize that they have to "sell product" to thrive and survive. That doesn't mean however that the bands don't support a particular ideology. It just means that they are doing what they have to to get their thoughts out there.
As far as concentrating on the lyrics to have them suit my ideologies, i would suggest that you are probably partially correct. Music affects people in different ways, people will often get different meanings to lyrics. It has always been that way. I believe that is what separates good music from great music. That you and I get different but similar meanings from the songs proves it.
As far as being objective, I would say that you are incorrect on that score. I am a partner in a small technology business. I have worked in nearly every capacity in our industry, service, installation, sales, etc. I have clearly seen both sides of the story so to speak. I have lived my whole life in a capitalist society and understand it fully. I have also spent a great deal reading about the socialist ideology and find that it makes a lot more sense than our current system. To me.
I'm not on a mission to convert staunch supporters of capitalism. I merely state my thoughts to people who ask. People are smart. They will decide the course that makes the most sense to them, and neither you nor I can do anything to change that. So to that, I could also ask you to drop the ideological fervor. There are endless arguments as to which ideology is the true failure in the real world.

You can reply with a long winded attempt to prove me wrong but don't bother, you are obviously brainwashed.
If you can't see that Maynard is being sarcastic about the whole "Buy my record, stupid" line, then you are without a doubt a moron. You see, sometimes bands take a sarcastic approach to get their points across. I could go on and give examples of leftist bands sarcastically impersonating corporate execs and whatnot, but I won't because you are quite obviously set in your ways. Just know this, a 2 year old could decipher those lines if we wasn't a brainwashed capitalist moron.
