whenever i get into heated debates with them they always bring up some "fact" of theirs that you cant possibly be moral without being religious and its "human nature" to be greedy and evil... they have faith in god but clearly not in humanity as far as i can see, i thought they go hand in hand...

There is alot of religious people who are greedy and evil. There are lot of cops, military and government who are greedy and evil.

And there is alot of people in jail who are greedy and evil and religious .

Look at the rape and stuff in the church where kids got rape.

Look at all the wars over what god is right.

What we want to do is end capitalism because capitalism promotes greedy and evil people.

Not to say people get exploited in capitalism.

Demonstrably false. Also, modern morality has moved on a great deal since the time the Bible and other savagely primitive holy books were written.

They don't. If humans are capable of dealing with social problems on their own, then what need of salvation? But if you accept the premise of original sin, that humans are inherently evil fuckups... then it becomes obvious that we are doomed without a "perfect" god to guide us.

Contemporary morality is secular in nature, however much some god-botherers might want to claim it as their own. And thanks to this modern secular morality, the world is a better place.

Of course you can. Look at morons such as Muhammad Atta and Fred Phelps who claim to follow a God but yet are completely immoral and then there are many atheists who by far more moral. God doesn't decide morality because of the simple fact that he doesn't exist, man is the measure of all things.
