A teenage US marine has told of his relief to be alive after being shot eight times by Iraqi snipers.

Private FC Michael Wayne Meyer, 18, of Austin, Texas, says he has no regrets about not making it all the way to the Baghdad.

He told reporters "coming home alive," was his main goal.

Meyer was helping unload equipment when his unit came under fire.

He was shot eight times, but two of the bullets were stopped by the breastplate in his flak jacket.

He said: "Usually in a reserve platoon (we) don't have much to worry about because Iraqis have given up or run away by the time you need the reserve.

"But we were taking sniper fire. My bullet-proof vest ended up saving my life."

If that is so, I think the little Iraqi boy one upped him so to speak, by living after having limbs blown off and burns over much of his body.

That's not so bad. Most of the professional killers seem to be over there "to get revenge for nine eleven".

That guy looks like he's a few sandwhiches short of a picnic.

What, did Kevlar give you stock options or something, Chiak47? You seem to display the similar amount of enthusiasm about Kevlar as my 12 year-old sister does with Avril Lavigne.

American ingenuity at it's finest.

The man who invented it was a pizza delivery boy who got shot and decided to tinker with fabric.
He tried to sell his idea only to get doors closed in his face.He took the vest and put it on and took a .357 and had a friend video tape while he shot himself in the chest.

He now owns second chance body armor.

Buzzard,

In a commie regime that kid would have his arms cut off for stealing bread..

You wrote earlier how you are going to rip my limbs off.
My family wont stand for that so you going to do the same to them coward?
hypocrite...What about the shallow graves the US just un-earthed?

I really hate you..And I rarely use hate.

Fuck off,

I just assumed you hated me on principle alone. now I see it is personal. oh well, its not like I was looking to make any friends here or anything.

Hazard,

I came here to learn.I then realised that all that love and peace you people preach is a smoke cloud.
You hate just as much as I do.

I would just love to live up north away from the decay of drugs and people always expecting free handouts. My job and family Keep me here.
I really want no part of it.
I have morals.

Hide behind that kid all you want.I know and understand the ugly side of war. It's sad what happened to him.But it wont be the last time it happens.

The US soldier that was hit EIGHT times is divine intervention or a bad shot whatever the case.I posted it cause I was interested and if I offended anyone then so be it.

I dont hate your principles.I honor men with heart felt inspirations cause I too have love for what I believe in.
I hate you for wanting to destroy my life and all I have ever known.Yes,I have been blessed. But I lost some of the most important people in my life so I do understand pain.
For example,
I moved from AZ to IL cause my brother in law/best friend died.He was 27.I went to grade school with him and he dated my sister since middle school.
My sister is still messed in the head over that. She barely gets out of bed and it's been over a year.

My mom died when I was young.

Her dad spent lots of time in Leavenworth cause he did not keep his paperwork with the ATF in order.

So just cause I am an American who loves the way this country was founded and was set up dont for 1 minute think I dont know what it feels like to hurt inside.
I'm a family man.I would die if my kids or wife were ever hurt.

Thanks,
Eric

Now that I know that you know how painful war is. I now know you (possibly) understand how hard it is for the family of the dead people in Iraq. I will just ask once again, why are you supporting the war?

This time, I didn't flamed you, and I expect you to do the same.

chiak:

I came in here with both guns blazing, you know, but I didn't mean to insult your reason for posting the article on the marine. I actually thought you were looking to instigate something between the kid and the marine. like the marine's life is more valuable than the kids because he is an american, or something like that. but your're right. the basis for the story is itself rather miraculous. I just have difficulty sometimes isolating the incident from the purpose. anyway, when we both are using people as symbols I think that we boh might be missing the point.

the point is that while we can sit here and fire verbal shots at one another, there are people really getting shot and blown apart in the real world. for this much we can both be glad.

Boris,

I really believe saddam is a bad man.In my mind he did not have the people at the top of his list.He had several chances to stop the war before the war started. It was all in his hands. He remained hostile. He made his bed.

I also believe that 12 years of inspections and diplomacy were waisted and war was the final step.

If it was about oil we could have had it in 92 when the troops were there but Bush SR-The real oil man-
said NO to invasion...9/11 also changed the way America looks at terror. We had years of it under clinton.
embassies all over were blown up/USS Cole/WTC truck bomb with chemicle weapons on board.
We need to erase the money men.

Why is it you defend Saddam? He was a extreme man who tried to invade other countries for wealth and land.
He was mad at Kuwait for slant drilling.
That goes against commies ideology of all for all.

Sadamn played the world for fools. He split friends and grouped foes.

That what I believe.

Thanks,
Eric

Hazard,

I agree.
I really did not mean to piss in anyones wheaties.
I never read a story like that before.

It's sad however that I've read 100's of stories like Ali's.
I really believe that he was not targeted and it was a accident. As PC as this country is and all.....

Forget about the hate shit...I hate no one.Except the damn kids at 2am with there music blaring while driving rice burners.

Thanks,
Eric

That's exactly what the u$ government is doing. But when bush and the others pigs in this government do this, everyone call that a "liberation".
What a hypocrisy!

18th April 2003, 12:07
Chiak, you seem to readily concede the fact that Saddam went into Kuwait because they were slant drilling. He also went in because Kuwait was selling their oil below OPEC set prices to destroy the Iraqi economy. There have been border disputes between Iraq and Kuwait since Kuwait was chopped off of Iraq.

If you acknowledge the fact that Kuwait was slant drilling, then you have to realize how crazy it was for the US to attack him over it.

Even the US ambassador at the time (Glaspie), told him that the US had "no opinion on arab-arab conflict".

So what other reason could we possibly have for being there if not for oil and strategic control of the region?
No one should be getting killed over that.

Thank god for the tolerant Americans, who give their citizens equal chances no matter their origin. Andso can expect that other people are tolerant to them too and don't hate them. And don't burn US flags on each demo against the US facist imperialism.

A nation based on new chances for all, under one facist god, under facist morals.

I agree with Pete, war is not just about politics, you should also look into the things that people might less look at. Such as the normal lives that might be completely changed during the wars. The dead childrens are not the ones tolerating the pain, I would rather say that it is their close ones. This is not political.

Also, just to say, I don't support Hussein either. I think he is a tyrant and does nothing good to the nation (Of Iraq). But it is still no reason to bomb a nation so carelessly... Er, wait, what I've just said was political... Oh well, my bad.
