i just heard the neocons are making a parody of michael moore. it's directed by zucker and abrams, who made two funny movies (naked gun and airplane) but everything else they've done has been a pile of steaming horseshit.
what do you guys think of michael moore? i know he's a reformist. i know his work is bias (at least he admits it) . i know he's no chomsky on the intellectual front. but i've always had a soft spot for him, mainly because it was his angry satire on the heartlessness of the wealthy and powerful that got me into politics in the first place. i suppose he serves an important purpose of being a populist and an entertainer, thus drawing people into politics. they can move on to bigger stuff later.

Michael Moore is a good man. A little short on the intellectual front and heavily biased BUT he is creative and damn funny. He also is the only one I know who has the cojones to expose the America for what it really is.

This new movie looks like its going to appeal to idiots who have never seen a Micheal Moore film and just want to attack him for being "anti-American".

Indeed.

The neo-cons are estatic about a director taking on "liberal Hollywood "

I never watched the Moore documentaries (saw it later like on cable) on theater and I surely won't see this one in theaters either if ever.

It's probably right-wing crap.

Moore is like the friendly uncle - he's more radical than most democrats, but doesn't (at least not publically) say the kind of stuff that normally gets posted here.

He's got resources to do some investigative reporting. Maybe not as much resources as the big media companies, but he's more likely to use it in more helpful ways. For example, his description of the health care policies in places outside the U.S. (in Sicko) was probably something most Americans are never given the chance to be exposed to.

He's a great storyteller. . . and I suppose he maybe involves some people or pushes them further in who wouldn't otherwise be so inclined. .

As much as I can appreciate his sarcasm, though, I can't loose a certain bitterness towards him. It seems to me that by failing to be scrupulously honest, he alienates those who are somewhat informed but not yet convinced, and over-all does damage to the left at almost all levels.

I just saw "Sicko" for the first time last night.

Most of it wasn't news to me (as an individual who has lived on both sides of the pond, and one who works in the U.S. health-care system), but it did put a new perspective on everything.

Among health-care professionals the greatest complaint against socializing health-care is (believe it or not) how many non-citizens (illegal immigrants) would be treated for free/cheap. Example. (http://forums.emsresponder.com/showthread.php?t=95871)

This argument, like most concerning illegal immigrants, is thinly-veiled racism; Americans wouldn't care if a Canadian came across the border, just Mexicans.
