I think I've been rather nice the last couple of days, ok maybe just the last 24 hrs. Hazard just called me a worm for the thousandth time in another post and all I said was "OTAY Spanky!!!" Redstar and I haven't mixed it up in like 2 or 3 days and Pete and I are actually having civilized discussions these days. Right Pete? This forum is an anolamy at che-lives. It isn't a gathering of friends, much less "comrades". It's purpose is not to shed light on questions of common interest.

It's a little "piece" of the bourgeois-dominated world that has been incorporated into che-lives, but sealed off from the rest of the board.

I have no idea what the original intentions behind having a forum like this were...perhaps it was thought that people who were still pro-capitalist but interested in communist ideas would come here and ask honest and thoughtful questions...and we would get some practice in getting ideas across to people without a background in left history or terminology.

It hasn't worked that way in the eight months that I've been on the board. I can recall only two thoughtful questions in this forum in the entire period that were raised by pro-capitalist people...and one of those was a ringer, a question that contained a hidden agenda. Or course, I didn't read every thread and there certainly could have been one or two others that I missed. But you get the idea.

The general tone of the pro-capitalists in this forum has been almost 100% abuse...much of it personal. I don't get too upset about it; flame wars do have a certain appeal...especially when the opponents are so inept.

But, standing back and trying to be objective: this forum has no legitimate reason to exist.

If I need to know the capitalist views of a certain issue, I have many intelligent sources on the internet to consult...the BBC News site is excellent for the purpose. There are even sites like Information Clearing House that gather the most revealing documents concerning what the ruling class really thinks about things. So the "cappies" are not here to provide us with anything useful in the way of information.

Nor do I think that it does a great deal for our "debating skills" to contest with such pathetic characters. It may be fun--it is for me--but I can't claim to have "improved" myself by trading insults with this bunch. I probably should have been reading something serious rather than indulging myself in the intellectual equivalent of pac-man.

So, aside from the fun of flame wars, what's the point of this forum?

I see none. As long as it's here, I'll enjoy it. (I'm already thinking over some new "titles" for the cappies that I haven't "baptized" yet.)

But I won't miss it when it's gone.

The funny thing is that in this community, it is not like any other I know, in another forum I visit, Rowdyruff.net, yes, I do know it's a PowerPuff Girls fanboard, but I still enjoy it. There, the rules are more strict, and if you start a flame war, you immediatly get banned.

I really think the same should be here. I think the rules should be more strict with flaming, and I don't mind watching my language, but it will be the same for us all. So, what do you think should happen to this forum?

Definitly, if you ask me, I think should be a major change in here. I don't think there is much more to say: Stricter rules...

Aside from the flaming, I do want to debate with people. But the thing in this is that it gets too hostile, and it turns out into a flame war.

While I would LOVE to see some actual discourse on the merits and flaws of Capitalism and Communism/Socialism in the OI forum, I don't think it's ever going to happen.

And as for banning for flaming.... it'll never happen. Far to many of the "good upstanding communists" go in there and flame away with no good reason other than their target is a cappie.

Although I would be willing to bet that a cappie responding to same would be bounced in a Lithuanian minute.

I am also not a communist, a Soviet, more like. On this Sunday night. I am toggling back and forth between the work I take home and this website. In the few moments I have toggled back and forth I have made about a 200 dollars. Yeah I'm a looser alright.

It is very easy for you to be high and mighty especially since you do not have to choose. Unless you are tested under the same conditions, then you will really never know if you will chase after cash.

I have quit many times. This is my 3 job in 9 years. Each time when I got sick of the conditions, I left for greener pastures. My employeer does not lead me like a dog. They know I will quit if they try to play that game.

Somewhere along the line someone had to make whatever it was that you sold in a matter of minutes. Chances are he was not being paid 200$ for a few minutes of his labor, the fact that you are being paid more for less, and are effectively being paid for a commodity produced at the hands of someone elses labor testifies to your exploitative nature.

As for my Sunday nights I do much more productive things than most my age. I educate myself outside the classroom, I am only a freshmen highschooler after all.

How can you be sure of my attitude?, any language expressed was the direct result of a perceived violent threat you made to a comrade. I am no pacifist and when an insane rightist seeks to do bodily harm to myself or a fellow comrade because of their ideology i will respond in much fouler ways than swearing. An injury to one is an injury to all....
