so the wars "over". one of two things are most likely to happen (though there are obviously others)-

A. America, who refuses to allow the UN help them in the reconstruction of Iraq, attempts to establish a westernized style-democracy, and succeeds. The people of Iraq become rich, fat, ignorant, and happy, like many Americans.

B. Much like what the european emperialists did to Africa hundreds of years ago, America sets up political restrictions that defy the already established tribal traditions of Iraq. A bloody tribal struggle for power ensues, and becuase America cannot establish a democratic state against the peoples will, a fundimentalist islamist dictatorshit is set up.

i'm curious to see what you folks think will happen, within, but not restricted to, these ideas.

isn't it obvious that the US are only going to try these things? they clearly will not work. for one thing the rest of the arab world would ostracize iraq. for another, the iraq people themselves will reject americana like the plague that it is.

all that is going to happen is that the US are going to be far too busy containing the iraqi people to consider an infusion of infustructure. they will rebuild and they will leave. or, they will die. anybody notice how the republicn guard just "disappeared" without a fight? I'm thinking an elite militia of guerrilla fighters who are not afraid to launch waves of suicide attacks against the pigs. america has only won the TV war. the real war hasn't even started.

hazard- you confuse me. Are you actually hoping that suicide attacks take place? Are you cheering for the incredibly brutal Ba'ath regime to succeed in the end?

My prediction:

As GWB has already stated, numerous times, that the UN will have a role in post war Iraq, I think it's going to happen.

If there is an armed resistance movement, they are going to have to do things like attacking food kitchens and such. Enough of it, and the US will pull out, leaving the UN to try to hold things together.

I hope that the Iraqi people like the idea of representational government. They can build themselves up into a stable and financially sound political body. I could care less who runs it, as long as 1- it's Iraqis and 2- they are chosen by the people of Iraq, and not the US.

good prediction anarcho. however, i doubt the UN will do much in the reconstruction at first, but i'm sure that if the US were to be driven out, which i also doubt, they would depend on the UN to hold everything together.

and hazard---it kinda sounds like you want suicide attacks. if so, thats pretty sickening. but i do agree--america has done nothing but win the "videogame"-style war. theres more to come--but this time around it'll be a huge power struggle among both the US and the iraqi people. we'll need the UN, but gwb is too stuck up to actually take help.

The major divide between the Anglo and Americans is over the UN. Bush will give the UN a role sure, probally cleaning up after his flounderings. Blair wants the UN to be the centre peice, Bush wants him to be the centrepiece.

Does Bush actually listen to Blair?
