STATEMENT BAGHDAD - to all!

could you please respond to this statement:
«Baghdad is called the capital of the Arab (Muslim) world, the U$ government knows this, and therefore the "liberation" of Baghdad by the (western/cristian) U$ could be seen as an attack on the Arab world and the Muslim way of life.»

i am not saying i agree.. just asking your responce to an, i think, important theory on the U$ motives for invading Iraq(Hussein was also cristian, mind you!).

well, in some ppls point of view he wasn't-- he was anti-Islamic(said the Iran government) and and altough the Iraqi Ba'ath party recognised the Islam as the state-religion.. there are/were Cristians in the government(were they tolerated by saddam hussein, obviously..)

I always figured that the capital of the muslim world was either Jerusalem or Mecca.

it's baghdad! Right in the cradle of civilization, in the fertile crescent, mesopitamia!
Mecca is in Saudi Arabia, consired by some to technically not even be in the "middle east" but geographicaly in the Arabian Peninsula.

Historically, yes. However, few Moslems decide to go and make a pilgramige to Baghdad.
