As everyone has already said here, people eat whatever they can when they are poor, and culturaly, it's probably fine to eat rat in China. Anyway, I know in Africa they eat what's called bush meat which is any animal that you can hunt and eat in the jungle (bush). I remember seeing one of those nature shows and they shot a chimp with a shotgun, it was so sad man. They didn't show when they actually hit it with the shot but they showed it when it took it's last 4 breaths. They were very labored, noisy, difficult breaths. I fealt bad for the little guy. Then later they cut it in pieces and you saw them selling a leg here, an arm there, etc.

Anyway, I'm an animal lover, BUT, I believe that people ALWAYS come before animals unlike some of the tree huggers in this country who demonize companies like Tyson Chicken, just to name one, because they grow animals to be slaughtered. We can do that because we (mankind) are the chosen ones. If you are religious, it means that god put these animals and resources here for our consumption. If you aren't religious, it means we won the war of evolution which went on for millions of yrs. We won that war. Because we have this great brain and dextrous hands, we can kill animals as huge as elephants with things we invent like guns.

Anyway, back to culture. I love pork/pig. I love bacon, ham, pork chops, roast pork leg, and so one. Pigs are the tastiest animals man!! But other cultures or religions like Islam think they are filthy animals. They roost in their own feces, etc just like that rat. But when you kill it, clean it, get rid of the fur, etc, the meat is clean. In the Phillipines they eat dogs dude. That's almost like eating a human to western cultured folks.

I remember about 10 yrs ago, I had a relative visit from Cuba, he was here 2 weeks and gained 15 lbs. There is so little food over here that he went to town eating anything he wanted.

Also, I went for training with my company out of state about 7 or 8 yrs ago and they had a couple of fellas there from Moscow. They couldn't believe how much food we had and the variety and how clean it was. They also went to town. They also liked how we could all just get into a car and go anywhere we want. Over there very few people own cars.

Also, because we have so much to eat in the US, we tend to eat too much animal protein which, while damned tasty, has to much cholesterol. The problem is that once you develope a taste for it and junk food, those habbits are about as hard to break as smoking.

as i have already pointed out before in a different thread, that is a path which ultimatly leads to economic crash. Also look at the US crash in the 1920's.
