i'm not to keen on the dubliners any more, i loved their old stuff but i think you should see them in a pub and not in the royal concert hall like now is always the case.

I agree. Recently the pogues launched a boxset with rare or unused tracks. It also contains a dub version of young ned of the hill which I think sounds very cool :). a new band with the pogues sound is the tossers. I saw them this year and it was great (also because they played 2 dubliners and 2 pogues covers, and I was drunk and so was the singer;)). Maybe I should visit a christmas concert from the pogues this year. I sure want to see them once in my life.

The Boys of the Lough (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1_W7Og-L3Q) are a great band with members from the Scottish, Irish and Northumbrian folk traditions.
Pete Clark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6YSd7OuMdg) is a great Scottish fiddler that I've had a few lessons from over the years.
