Russia's Supreme Court has ruled that the last Tsar, Nicholas II, and his family were victims of political repression and should be rehabilitated.
It looks as though Russia has taken yet another step toward legitimizing its Tsarist past. I cannot say that I'm all too surprised by this ruling, as absurd as it is. It is very strange to say that the killing of a tyrant counts as 'political repression', or even if we admit that it was, that such political repression was wrong. Next they'll be saying that the revolutionaries were wrong to kill Louis XVI.

Anyway, discuss.

Is the rehabilitation of the Romanovs the first step in the restoration of Russia as a Monarchy?

Will the ex Stalinists turned democrats now dig up Lenins body and hang it as the English did with the corpse of Oliver Cromwell?

Is the rehabilitation of the Romanovs the first step in the restoration of Russia as a Monarchy? No. Leaving aside practical matters, such as finding a heir, the restoration of a Romanov autocracy would be completely unacceptable to the ex-Soviet bureaucrats who now control the Russian state
