Hi, Im a 17 year old student from the UK. I'm not sure if my name would give it away, but I am also a Sikh of Punjabi origin. I currently study politics as one of my subjects and it is one of my favourites. Having an intrest in politics and the world in general, I had from the start been quite opinionated and found myself leaning towards the left, this viewpoint was strengthened quite a bit after I took up the subject academically, and as luck would have it one of my teachers is quite a hardcore socialist. Currently I am looking into socialism but due to my studies it is not something I can at this moment in time look into in great depth. I hope to read Marx and other relevent texts, also if anyone here would like to suggest any text to read as an introduction that too would be lovely.
Unlike a lot of those of this political persuasion, I am quite religious. One of my reasons for joining this forum is to try to see if there really is any way in which I can fit my religious beliefs with the political views I am currently leaning to. A bit of reading as a guest so far has I have to say scared me a bit in terms of how anti-religion people here seem to be, I hope I don't get my head bitten off lol!

Welcome. :) As in terms of beginning text, I started out by reading Marx's Communist Manifesto.(i'm actually re-reading it now). Anyway, i'm perfectly fine with religious people. I'm actually very interested in learning about other cultures/religions so we should get along fine.

Well, i would suggest you give your religious beliefs a self-criticism test,using your critical logical skills objectively...

Anyway,religion certainly is not the root of all evil,despite what dawkins says..

The policy of the vast majority of schools of thought is secularism, not atheism. It's compatible with all religons, so long the goal isnt fundamentalism, which your prescence here suggests is not the case :p
