This movie simply disgusts me. My mother has become infatuated with the entire 'philosophy' of The Secret. I'm curious what other's opinions are about this.
I think it's ridiculous the way they attempt to skew scientific theories to fit into their own pseudo-science/mysticism. These people are just out to get rich quick and they're cashing in people's insecurities.

The movie itself I think takes out of context what the scientists (specifically the psychologists) are saying by mixing it in with the philosophers and theologians.
In psychology, positive thinking can keep your motivation up.
However, this movie's thesis is that of magical thinking, in which thought can change the universe. It also blames the individual for everything that is wrong in their life...since they had the "power of the secret" to turn it around.
The movie's thesis could hint to solipsism and to crapy a priori statements (For example, "this is like this...why? because I believe it so and the universe reacts according to my thoughts")

Mine too; even my father.
The problem however, in my experience, is those who really believe in the secret will begin to react towards it in a religious matter (especially if they're already religious).
When I argue against it lightly I get arguments for that are VERY similar to what I heard them say towards their (my parent's) religion.

This ideology blames poor people for their misery becaue they didn't use the "powers" of wishful thinking. I read half into the book and I remember it to posit this explanation to the poverty of Africa. I couldn't read further because I was infuriated and constantly on the verge of puking. This book is so corny and wrong I just get irritated thinking about it -- so I'll stop here.

It just extends that mythos to include the insane idea that if you think hard enough you will 'succeed.'
Of course, this makes it powerfully attractive to people who are looking for a way out of drudgery, or who are frustrated with life- which makes it even more dangerous. I'm really glad this was brought up, because this kind of crap is so insidiously popular.
Of course, when it all becomes too much, there's always The Chaser.
