I can only think of one person, Lee Harvy Oswald.

Immigration to a communist country brings to mind the first Leathal Weapon move. Why? When Danny Glover tried to get a passport to Aparthied South Africa?

Anyone else? Please add to the list and a brief bio.

Right on Kelvin. By the way, Oswald came back when he no longer felt like a hero to the USSR. As I mentioned in one of my posts earlier: How many people do you see risking their lives on a raft to go from Key West back to Cuba or from Texas back to Mexico? The answer is none. So this must not be such a bad place and it might actually be pretty good if they are willing to risk their lives to come here. The inner tube ride from Cuba to Key West doesn't have such a high success rate and they still risk it. They face sharks, drowning, sun burns, etc and maybe 50% make it if that much.

What all these American haters need is a yr in Cuba or China, not as a tourist, but as a regular citizen. They don't know what they talk of because they haven't lived it. In fact they should put their money where their mouth is and go to one of those countries since they hate the US so much. They'll be beging to come back in 2 days.

Look at Robyn Quivers on the Howard Stern Show. She went to India as a tourist and she lasted 1 day. And that's not a communist country. I think there is a communist province there but it's not a dictatorship. Imagine how she would have felt in China or Cuba.

Dude, I would seriously consider that act. That is a move that could ruin your whole life. When you return to this country the CIA will be watching you. I also would not advertise that on a resume when you apply for a job. Your going to have to earn a living somehow. Even if you are not, you will effectively brand yourself a traitor. Can you imagine applying for a job, when the person you interview with fought in both Gulf Wars.

Of course if you don't plan on comming back, then everything I wrote down is all jibberish.

Then not to mention the food shortages in Cuba. Do you like meat? Get used to not having it.

Right on Kelvin. I lived in Castro's and Che's Cuba and you don't want anything to do with it.

I am not a big fan of meat. I eat it if I have it. If not ohwell.

I am not American. I am Canadian. Castro came here a few years back for Trudeau's funeral. Our nations are friends.

This is more like it, a nice civil discussion with almost no name calling. Before you know it we will all be sitting around a campfire together in a free Iraq or a free Cuba singing Cumbaya.

I moved to an austensibly "communist" country and know many many many people who have done the same.

There is tons of documentation about emmigration to the Soviet Union and China during the cold war, you are spectacularly poorly informed if you think Oswald was alone.

Yes I have thought of leaving Australia to go to Cuba, Swedan and Holland. I once thought that Australia was great and wonderful with no crime that thought of thing (I was way young). I read about how great Cuba was, how great Holland was. Swedan a *real* socialist country. (this was latter.) I reliase that Australia is freer then most, but the many of the people are racist and right wing. the democracy's not perfect. and the some of the laws are real great either. then I dreamed of a real socialist country in Australia, now I realise that there are too many right wingers and they control the money. and so the way to communist/socialist country would be through revolution. But anyway I'm to off thread.

and Oswald was turned down by the USSR.

I lived in Bulgaria right after the fall of communism, and really other than increase in poverty, lower social services, higher unemployment, inflation, homeless population there wasn't all that much of a difference.

Bulgaria was very, very, close to U.S.S.R. in relation to living standards and such.

I fell into almost every stereotypical American belief and propaganda about their country. Like when I was over there I saw huge bread lines. I was like, so this is just like it was in communism, not enough bread for everybody?
Answer:
"No, there is pleanty of bread, we just all want to get it fresh for breakfast, we buy our bread daily out of the oven." It is a european way of life. We also had to line up for milk, meats and other daily purchased items. Those always had large lines and in fact our family members would wake up, get ready, I'd get milk, mother would get meat, father bread and my brother Dinko would get cheese or a pastry item. Then we would come back and have breakfast. They never ran out but tons of people all coming out between 6 AM to 7:30 AM at once to shop creates huge lines. And there wasn't a lot of shops, why? Because nobody bought these products during the day, and the shops closed, some of them re-opening after 3:00 PM.

I'd live there in a heartbeat when it was communist. Guarnteed work, plenty of study time, people had developed a lot of interesting hobbies, everybody was a painter, excellent schools, 3 languages mastered was average, Bulgarian, Russian, then German or French. Very intelligent people that were free to do about anything, because well everything recreational was pretty much free.

I would like to, but wouldn't. I like this country and could never leave permanently. ( despite the corruption and lies) I plan to leave for a year or so, but that is in the not so near future. I met some one in '94 who lived in Cuba for eight months, but was asked to leave ( or so he told me) But other than him, I don't know of any one.

Dirty Commie, now you know me. Read my posts that I've started and the ones I've replied to for the truth on Castro's and Che's socialism. Pay attn to the specific mentions of misery and torture. I even have a couple of links.

Wow, I live in Holland. I know all most every European country is a socialist paradise but we are not on the same level as the great Cuba.
