I don't think they could have pushed them out.

It would have just meant much more of a fight for US forces and alot more money spent on the conflict by the US.

It may have led to much more anti-war sentiment amongst alot more of the US people much earlier on in the conflict, but the government (either Democract or Republican) wouldn't have given a shit either way.

The fact remains that the US won't leave Iraq until it can guarantee that Iraq's oil is secure and will be powering the American economy.

Not all the Suni and Shite groups are fighting each other. In fact i wouldnt be suprised if most of those attacks are in fact CIA work. The Iraqi resistance is working together a lot more than the imperialists would want them too.

well i do think that had they not been fighting one another the insurgency would be larger as a lot of people would not have to fear that their family's might be at risk from sectarian violence so they would not have to stay at home and protect their family.

I don't know why you think this but my personal experience says a million times otherwise. In much of the country they segregate themselves into different neighborhoods, they attend different mosques, they shop at different markets. And in my daily conversation with both sects I found that they generally disliked each other, and that the young people of each sect, between 10-20 absolutely hated the others.
